Expansion: The Team Game
The Castles of Burgundy's team game for four: two teams of two building one shared team duchy (12a or 12b), with shared and private storage.
Short tag: [Team]
Four players in two teams of two, sitting side by side if possible. Each team builds one big shared duchy. All base rules apply except the changes below.
What it adds

- Two-part team boards: 12a1 + 12a2 (start here) and, on the back, 12b1 + 12b2 for experienced teams.
Setup changes
Replace the “each player takes” part of the setup with this. Each team gets:
- A team board of two halves (12a1 + 12a2).
- A castle on the central dark green 1 space. On the 12b side each team picks its dark green 1 or 6 space.
- 3 random goods tiles on the team’s goods storage (same colours stacked).
- Workers and silver beside the board, visible to all: team A 3 workers, team B 5 workers, and 2 silver per team.
Each player still takes their own 2 dice, 2 playing pieces and victory point tile. For round 1 the bridge order is A1, B1, A2, B2; after that it follows the bridge as usual.
| Team | Workers | Silver | Goods |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 3 | 2 | 3 random |
| B | 5 | 2 | 3 random |
Playing as a team
- Each player has 2 private storage spaces; each team has 2 shared storage spaces in the middle of the board.
- Shared by the team: workers, silver, goods and the tiles in shared storage. Either partner may use them.
- Your own: your dice and the tiles in your private storage. You may not use your partner’s.
- Tiles never move from one storage to another.
- You may place tiles anywhere on the team board, on either half, following the normal rules.
The bridge
Each player moves their own piece on the bridge. A single player may place more than 6 ships: if your piece is already on the last bridge space and you place another ship, put it on top of the stack there.
Final scoring
Add both partners’ points. The team with more wins. On a tie, the team with more empty spaces in its duchy wins.
The team game was designed by Matthias Nagy of Frosted Games.
