Expansion: The Border Posts
The Castles of Burgundy's border-post duchies 11a–11f: linking border posts for phase points and the bonus for linking all three.
Short tag: [Border]
Six new duchies, 11a–11f, each with three border posts printed at its edge. Linking them with tiles earns extra points.
What it adds

- 6 duchies (11a–11f), used instead of the usual duchies.
- No new tiles or pieces: the points are moved on the score track.
Setup changes
- Every player takes a duchy 11 (deal them at random).
- Each player places the starting castle on a dark green space of their choice (FAQ).
- Everything else is set up as usual.
Connecting border posts
When an unbroken chain of your hex tiles joins two border posts, you score the current phase value at once: 10 in phase A, 8 in B, 6 in C, 4 in D, 2 in E — the same value as the phase bonus.
- The chain may be any tiles of any colours, as long as they are connected.
- This comes on top of whatever the tiles themselves score.
The border-post bonus
The first player to link all three border posts scores the usual colour-bonus value: 5, 6 or 7 VP with 2, 3 or 4 players. The second scores 2, 3 or 4 VP. Later players get nothing.
| 2 players | 3 players | 4 players | |
|---|---|---|---|
| First to link all three | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| Second | 2 | 3 | 4 |
There is no tile for this bonus: move your scoring piece and remember who has taken it.
Mixing duchies
The border-post duchies give their owners extra points, so the rulebook has everyone play on one. Some groups first decide between duchies 1–10 and 11, then deal (FAQ).
