Advanced Game – Characters
Galileo Galilei's advanced mode: the special abilities of Galileo, Kepler, Copernicus and Bruno, their personal Book of Comets pages and extra pieces, plus the Edmond Halley promo.
Advanced mode
Once you know the game, play the Character Boards on their special ability side. Choose astronomers any way you like and take each one’s extra pieces. Every Character Board has the same four free actions at the top; the bottom shows the ability and any personal Book of Comets pages. In Cleanup you may put a comet on your own page instead of the Book of Comets on the board, and take its reward (Book of Comets).
The solo game always uses this side (Solo).
[Moon] Luna adds four more astronomers, playable with or without the expansion (Luna characters).
Galileo Galilei

- Personal comet page: when covered, take 2
. - Ability: every
Observe action may include one more constellation: a Major
Object plus a constellation, or three constellations.
Johannes Kepler

- Setup: put his special Action tile on the last space of the starry sky, left of Upgrade, and keep one of his basic tiles on his Character Board.
- Special tile, read from the rulebook picture: two dice +2 each, or 3
;
upgraded, two dice +3 each, or 4
. - Ability: whenever he uses the special tile’s moving action he also does one of:
swap two Action tiles on his player board, or- swap an Action tile on his player board with the tile on his Character Board.
Nicolaus Copernicus

- Personal comet page: when covered, Persuade two different Inquisitors twice each (each moves up to two spaces).
- Ability: once per turn, as a free action costing no Quadrants, lay one of his four double-sided library tiles into his library, covering the rewards beneath. A tile may not cover a Book token, must fit inside the rows of his Discovery cards and may not be turned upside down; either side may be used.
Giordano Bruno

- Personal comet pages (two): one lets him Persuade four times, split as he likes; the
other lets him
Upgrade an Action tile. - Ability: his cellar tile covers his player board’s cellar with five spaces, so Inquisitors take longer to persuade — but some spaces pay a reward each time an Inquisitor moves onto them.

Edmond Halley (promo)
A promo astronomer, not covered by the rulebooks; this summary is from his printed Character Board. Check it against the physical component.
- Three personal comet pages: Lecture and take a
; raise two dice by 3; score 7
points. - Halley’s Comet: a special comet worth 2 on its starting side and 3 when flipped, used like any comet when observing. After its second use it may go on one of his pages or on the board.
- Whenever he Spots a comet he may use Halley’s Comet instead of one from his board, so it can come back again and again. Taking it off a page frees that page’s reward for the next comet.
