The Actions
The nine Quadrel spaces of Vinhos Special Vintage 2016: Vineyards, Wineries, Enologists and Farmers, Cellars, Sales, Export, Wine Experts and their abilities.
Each action lets you take 1 or 2 of something (the ×1 / ×2 on the space). Pay the movement cost first (Movement on the Quadrel), then the action. The ninth space, Pass / Press Release, is on Press Release and the Fair.
Your player board
Your board has 5 Estates. Each Estate has 3 slots for Vineyards and Wineries (one tile per slot) and a Warehouse with 2 wine slots, which a Cellar can cover.
- An Estate belongs to one region and one colour: its Vineyards must all be from the same region and the same colour (red or white). Each region has 2 red and 2 white Vineyards, so an Estate never has more than 2 Vineyards.
- Because an Estate needs a Vineyard to produce, it holds at most 2 Wineries.
- You may have several Estates in the same region, and several players may share a region.
Vineyards
Two spaces on the Quadrel (top left and bottom right). Each Vineyard adds 2 to the Wine Quality
of its Estate and sets the wine’s colour.
Buy 1 Vineyard from each of 1 or 2 different regions — never 2 from the same region in one action. For each one:
- Take the top tile of that region’s stack (you cannot choose).
- Pay the price on its cost side: 3 Bagos in Minho, 4 in Trás-os-Montes, Alentejo and Algarve, 5 in the other five regions (all Vineyard tiles).
- Put it region side up in an empty slot of one of your Estates.
- If it is the first Vineyard of that Estate, move that Estate’s disc from its first slot to the region on the map, and take the region’s bonus (Regions). A second Vineyard in the same Estate gives no disc and no bonus.
- If possible, put 1 Region Renown cube from the supply in an empty space of the region’s inset.
Wineries
Each Winery adds 1 to Wine Quality and can house one Enologist. Build 1 or 2:
- Take a Winery tile from the board and pay 3 Bagos.
- Put it in an empty Estate slot — red side up in a red Estate, white side up in a white one. In an Estate with no Vineyard yet the side does not matter; flip it to match later.
- Add a Renown cube if possible: to the Estate’s region inset, or — if the Estate has no Vineyard yet — on the Winery itself until a Vineyard arrives, then move it to that region.
Enologists and Farmers
Hire 1 or 2 workers in any mix:
| Worker | Cost | Goes on | Adds to Wine Quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enologist | 3 Bagos | An empty Winery (1 per Winery) | +2 |
| Farmer | 2 Bagos | An empty Vineyard (1 per Vineyard) | +1 |
You cannot hire an Enologist without a free Winery, or a Farmer without a free Vineyard. At the start of each Production you may move your workers between your Estates (Production).
Cellars
A Cellar lets wine age for value: +1, +1, +3, +5 by slot (Wine Value).
Build 1 or 2:
- Take a Cellar tile and pay 3 Bagos.
- Put it over the Warehouse of one Estate (one Cellar per Estate). Move every wine from the Warehouse to the same slot of the Cellar.
- Add a Renown cube as for Wineries (on the Cellar itself if the Estate has no Vineyard yet).
A Minho Estate can never have a Cellar.
Sales
Sell 1 or 2 wines to the three establishments — Casa de Fados, Hotel and Enoteca — for money. Both wines may go to the same establishment in one action. FAQ. For each wine:
- Put one of your barrels on an empty Sales slot of the wine’s colour (red slots for red wine, white for white). Its Wine Value must be at least the slot’s value.
- Remove 1 or 2 Renown cubes of the wine’s region only if you need them to reach that slot.
- Discard the Wine tile and take the slot’s value in Bagos.
The barrel stays on the slot until Maintenance returns it (one per year) or a Wine Expert moves it.
Export
Export 1 or 2 wines to the foreign markets; each column of the Export area is a
country. For each wine:
- Put a barrel on an empty Export slot whose value the wine’s Value reaches (spending 1–2 cubes only if needed). The barrel stays there for good, unless a Wine Expert moves it.
- Discard the Wine tile and score the slot’s VP immediately
, whatever the wine’s value.
At the end of the game each column gives the VP printed at its top
to whoever has most
barrels in it; tied players split it, rounded down (Export majorities).
With 2 players only the slots inside the 2-player frame are used. Both wines of one action may go
into the same column.
Wine Experts
Hire 1 or 2 Wine Experts, 1 Bago each: take the top tile of any of
the four decks (Taste, Aroma, Appearance, Alcohol Content) and put it face up in front of you. Decide on
the second after seeing the first; it may come from the same deck. There is no limit to how many you
own, and discarded Experts go face up to the bottom of their deck.
An Expert does two jobs:
- At a Press Release you may discard it for Fair Points if its feature is on the Vintage tile (Wine Experts at the Fair).
- On your turn you may flip it face down to use its ability — once per turn.
Wine Expert abilities
Use one face-up Expert per turn, during the Actions phase: flip it face down and apply its ability. A face-down Expert cannot go to the Fair; it flips face up again before years 4 and 6 (not after the third Fair).
