Welcome to Vinhos

Portugal. You run a wine business for six years: you open Estates in the wine regions, buy Vineyards, build Wineries and Cellars, hire Enologists and Farmers — and every year the weather decides how good the harvest is.
The player with the most victory points wins. Points come from:
Exports to foreign markets, and the majorities in each country.
Three Wine Tasting Fairs, where your best wine competes.
Magnate Multiplier tiles, money and leftover wine at the end.
This guide covers the Special Vintage 2016 rules — the simpler of the box’s two games. 1–4 players (solo against Lacerda), 90–180 minutes. Ready? Open the setup checklist — it adapts to your player count.
The map, the Quadrel and your Estates

- The map (left): nine wine regions, each with a stack of Vineyards and an inset for Renown
cubes
. - The Quadrel (centre): nine action spaces. You move your marker to one of them for each action.
- Sales and Export areas (bottom): local establishments that pay in Bagos, and foreign countries that pay in prestige.
- The Fair and the Magnates (right): the Fair Score track, four booths and three Magnates holding your barrels.
- Your player board: 5 Estates, each with 3 slots for Vineyards and Wineries and a Warehouse for wine.
More: The actions, Regions.
A year: two actions
- Start — turn a new Vintage tile: the weather (+2 to −2) and what the Magnates want.
- Two actions each, in turn order. Move your marker on the Quadrel and take that space’s action:
Vineyards,
Wineries,
Enologists/Farmers,
Cellars,
Sales,
Export,
Wine Experts or
Pass / Press Release. - Maintenance — one barrel comes back from the Sales area.
- Production — wines age, every Estate makes a wine.
- Fair — in years 3, 5 and 6.
Moving to a neighbouring space is free; farther, onto the tax marker or onto rivals costs Bagos. You may also flip one Wine Expert and one Magnate Action tile each turn.

Making and spending wine
Wine Quality is set when the wine is made: +2 per Vineyard, +1 per Farmer, +1 per
Winery, +2 per Enologist, ± the weather.
Wine Value is what the wine is worth when it leaves: Quality, plus +1/+1/+3/+5 for
aging in a Cellar, plus 1–2 Renown cubes if needed.
Every wine ends one of four ways:
| Use | You get |
|---|---|
| Bagos — the money you need | |
| VP now and majorities at the end | |
| Fair Points and barrels from the Magnates | |
| A Magnate Action or Multiplier tile |
More: Wine, Regions and Renown.
Fairs and the final score
At the end of years 3, 5 and 6 a Wine Tasting Fair ranks everyone by their Fair Points, which keep adding up all game: 9/6/3, then 12/8/4, then 15/10/5 VP. Then, in the new turn order, players trade wines for Magnate tiles.
After the third Fair everyone takes one more action, then scores
:
- money (up to 18 VP),
- half the Quality of each wine left,
- the majority in each export country,
- each Multiplier tile with a barrel on it.
Most VP wins; ties go to most barrels in the Export area, then most money.
