Learn Mombasa

Learn the game in 5 short steps. Everything links to the full rules.

Get rich on shares

You are an investor in four chartered companies — Mombasa, Cape Town, Saint-Louis and Cairo. None of them is yours. After 7 rounds the richest player wins: cash, plus each company’s share value times your shares, plus your diamond and bookkeeping tracks.

Plan with cards

Each round you secretly put up to 3 cards (later 4 or 5) under your board. Goods cards buy new cards and move you up the company tracks; expansion cards spread a company across the map; bookkeepers and diamond merchants move your own two tracks.

Cards rest

After the round, every card you played goes to the resting deck above its slot. You take back only one resting deck per round — so where you play a card decides when you see it again.

Shares and their value

Moving up a company track gives you shares. Expanding a company onto the map uncovers coin icons in its base: each uncovered coin adds 1 pound to every share. Others profit from your expansions too — and an expansion can oust a rival company’s posts.

Diamonds and books

Diamond merchants move your diamond track; books bought with bookkeeping points let a bookkeeper move your ink jar if your face-up cards meet each book’s needs. Both tracks pay at the end and unlock an extra card slot.
