Expansion: Zoo Map Pack 2

Maps 11–14 (Caves, Artificial Intelligence, Drawing Board, Lagoon) and Tournament Map 1, with their new bonuses and abilities.

Zoo Map Pack 2 adds 4 double-sided maps: Map 11 Caves, Map 12 Artificial Intelligence, Map 13 Drawing Board and Map 14 Lagoon on the fronts, Tournament Map 1 on every back. Use them like Maps 1–8 when you choose your map at setup. Short tag: [Map Pack 2].

Paired rewards

On some of these maps your second partner zoo partner zoo and second university university don’t each give an upgrade. Instead you get the first reward once you have 1 partner zoo and 1 university, and the second once you have 2 of each. On Map 11 a third reward comes with 3 of each.

Map 11: Caves

Store bonus: put 1 card from your hand face down under an empty storage slot on the right of your map (3 slots).

Map 12: Artificial Intelligence

At setup put 1 player token on each of the map’s 4 strength bonuses. You gain them by covering the ones printed on your map, by your second university and by your third association worker; they are not placement bonuses. Each one moves its token onto the leftmost yellow-framed card slot still showing its strength, hiding it.

A card in a slot with no visible strength uses the next visible strength to its right:

Bonuses gainedSlot 1Slot 2Slot 3Slot 4Slot 5

122345
233345
333355
433366

Cards and Animals treat strength 6 as 5. X-tokens add 1 each on top, as usual. Uncovering a bonus space again (Cut Down) returns the token from the rightmost slot that has one.

Map 13: Drawing Board

You start with a size-2 enclosure in the centre. Rock and water split the rest into 4 areas (top, right, bottom, left; the centre enclosure belongs to none). There is no 7 appeal for covering the whole map. Instead, each area you cover completely gives its bonus at once and again as income in every break — clockwise from the top: 3 money, 2 appeal, 1 reputation, Hunter 4.

If a space of a covered area is uncovered again (Cut Down), that area’s income stops but nothing you gained is lost; covering it again repeats the bonus and restores the income.

Map 14: Lagoon

Tournament Map 1

Once you have supported a conservation project and chosen the recurring “take a card in reputation range or draw one from the deck” bonus, you gain an ability for the rest of the game: once per turn, discard 1 card from your hand to add 1 to the strength of one action. It stacks with up to 5 X-tokens (+6 at most) but never gives an X-token.

Bonuses and abilities

These first appeared in Marine Worlds and turn up on several maps:

AbilityWhat it does
Adapt XDraw X Final Scoring cards, then discard X from all you hold (new, old or mixed).
MarkAfter finishing the action, put a player token on an unmarked Animal card in the display. If it is discarded from the display, it goes to your hand; if it leaves any other way (taken or played by anyone, you included), gain 2 money. The token then comes back.
Extra ShiftBring 1 association worker back from the Association board to your notepad and use it again. If none of your workers is left on that task, 1 worker is enough to do it again; with 2 of yours still there, it stays closed.
Cut DownReturn 1 empty standard enclosure to the supply and gain 2 money per space. Your remaining buildings may end up apart. Bonuses under it can be gained again (not with card 280 Reconstruction).
Shark AttackDiscard 1 Animal in reputation range from the display and gain half its appeal, rounded down. No refill until your turn ends.
Animal MagnetTake every Animal card in the display into your hand, in range or not; refill at the end of your turn.
Scavenging 3Shuffle the discard pile, draw 3, keep 1.
