Cards & Components
The components of Ark Nova: Zoo cards, enclosures, tiles, tokens, boards and the icons.
Overview pictures are from the rulebook (© Feuerland Spiele); the individual card faces, zoo maps and tiles come from the English Tabletop Simulator mod, and the Zoo Map Pack 2 maps from this Tabletop Simulator mod. Each card type is explained, with its layout, on Animals, Sponsors and Projects. Card effects below are short summaries: the printed card is the full text.
Boards
Zoo maps
Every zoo map side, 900 px wide so the printed bonuses stay readable. All maps share FAQ FAQ
the same frame: the conservation bonuses on the left, the building overview, partner zoo
and university
spaces and the notepad on the right
(Your zoo map). Spaces marked with the upgrade symbol
can only
be built on once your Build card is on side II. The placement bonuses listed are the kinds printed on the
hexes; covering one pays it once (Placement bonuses).
| Picture | Map |
|---|---|
![]() | Map A · The first-game map, no special ability. You start with an empty size-3 |
![]() | Map 0 · The easier map for a second game, no special ability and no starting buildings. Placement bonuses: X-token |
![]() | Map 1: Observation Tower · The tower stands on a rock space at the left edge. Each time a standard enclosure next to the tower space flips to its occupied side, gain 2 appeal |
![]() | Map 2: Outdoor Areas · The outdoor area is a water space in the lake. A standard enclosure next to it counts as 2 sizes larger for all purposes: a size 1 can hold an animal needing 1–3, including when you move or release it. Special enclosures don’t count, and it is not a building. Placement bonuses: a partner zoo |
![]() | Map 3: Silver Lake · A profitable area around the lake: many of its hexes pay 2 money |
![]() | Map 4: Commercial Harbor · The harbor sits in the bottom-left corner. Once you have a building on the space next to it, once in each of your turns you may discard 1 hand card for 3 money (any time in your turn, not in a break). Placement bonuses: X-token, a Multiplier |
![]() | Map 5: Park Restaurant · The restaurant fills a space in the middle. In every break’s income, gain 1 money for each covered space next to it, whatever the building. It is not a building itself. Its bonus lets you build either pictured special enclosure for free, even before Build is upgraded. Placement bonuses: X-token, 5 money, 1 reputation, a card, slot 1, play a Sponsor card for money; 3 upgrade spaces. FAQ |
![]() | Map 6: Research Institute · The institute sits in the bottom-left corner. Once you have a building on the space next to it, every Animal you play may ignore 1 condition |
![]() | Map 7: Ice Cream Parlors · Three hexes each give a free kiosk |
![]() | Map 8: Hollywood Hills · Three hexes carry an H. Each time you build on one, reveal deck cards until a Sponsor, take it and discard the rest (not a placement bonus). With all three covered, every Sponsor you play counts 1 level lower. Placement bonuses: X-token, 5 money, 1 reputation, a card, slot 1; 3 upgrade spaces. |
![]() | Map 9: Geographical Zoo · [Map Pack 1] Five continent areas: the first matching animal housed in each area gives 1 of 5 bonuses. Geographical Zoo |
![]() | Map 10: Rescue Station · [Map Pack 1] Its placement bonus gives Digging 1; a discarded Animal may go under the top of your map and count as in your zoo. Rescue Station FAQ |
![]() | Map 11: Caves · [Map Pack 2] Store bonuses put hand cards in 3 storage slots on the right; each stored card pays 2 money per break. Map 11: Caves |
![]() | Map 12: Artificial Intelligence · [Map Pack 2] Four strength bonuses (2 on the map, your second university, your third worker) each cover the leftmost strength still showing under your Action cards; a card in a covered slot uses the next visible strength, and each X-token adds 1 to that strength. Map 12: Artificial Intelligence FAQ |
![]() | Map 13: Drawing Board · [Map Pack 2] You start with a size-2 enclosure in the centre; each of the 4 areas you cover completely pays its bonus at once and in every break. Map 13: Drawing Board |
![]() | Map 14: Lagoon · [Map Pack 2] Every association worker you gain finds you a person Sponsor; bonuses play a person Sponsor for free or clear folder 1 of the display. Map 14: Lagoon |
![]() | Tournament Map 1 · [Map Pack 2] The back of Maps 11–14: once you have taken the recurring card bonus when supporting a project, you may discard 1 hand card once per turn for +1 strength. Tournament Map 1 |
