The Actions
Every Wendake action: Canoe, Move, Harvest, Hunting, Tan Pelts, Fishing, Military with Turtle tiles, Mask Ceremony, Trade with Smallpox and Progress tiles, Sacred Fire and Ritual.
Overview
Each line on an Action tile is one action. Between lines you may transfer an Outpost or use a Progress power (FAQ).
Each action appears as a symbol on your Action tiles. When a tile shows several, you use them in order from top to bottom, and every one is optional.
| Symbol | Action | In short |
|---|---|---|
| Canoe | put a Canoe on a Lake | |
| Move | move Warriors up to the number of steps shown | |
| Harvest | 1 Vegetable per field with your Woman | |
| Hunting | 1 Beaver per forest with your Hunter | |
| Tan Pelts | all your Beavers become Leather | |
| Fishing | 1 Fish per Canoe in play | |
| Military | take Turtle tiles, then score territories | |
| Mask Ceremony | draw a Mask card, play a combination | |
| Trade | exchange, buy a Progress tile, buy Economic points | |
| Sacred Fire | use another tile of your grid | |
| Ritual | bring 2 Natives Home, score Ritual |
[Allies] New Allies adds the
Alliance action (New Allies).
Canoe
Put one of your Canoes on any Lake. Which Lake does not matter in the base game; your
Canoes count for Fishing, Exchanges and Canoe
Turtle tiles. You have five; a placed Canoe never leaves the board.
[Allies] With New Allies the Lake matters for trading with the European Ships (New Allies).
Move
Move your Warriors a total number of steps up to the number on the tile, split among
them as you like. Each step enters an adjacent territory (never an opponent’s Home), or turns a Guard
into an Outpost in its own territory. You may fight on the way. Women and Hunters are never moved
directly. Full rules: The Map: Moving and Fighting.
Harvest
Each Productive Area holding one of your
Women produces one of the
Vegetables printed beside it —
Corn,
Beans or
Pumpkins.
Hunting
Take one
Beaver token for each Productive Area holding one of your
Hunters.
Your Home has Productive Areas too, so you always produce at least one Vegetable and one Beaver — unless you emptied them. However many Women or Hunters stand on a Home area, it produces only one.
Tan Pelts
Discard all your
Beavers and take one
Leather for each.
Fishing
Take one
Fish for each of your Canoes in play.
Resources and Beavers are unlimited; use the Multiplier tiles if the wooden pieces run out. Hoarding rarely pays, though.
Military
Two steps, in this order:
- Turtle tiles. Count the Productive Areas holding your
Women, those holding your
Hunters, and your
Canoes in play, and take the
Turtle tiles you qualify for — at most one of each kind (Women, Hunters,
Canoes) per action, and never two identical tiles. Take the top tile of the pile. - Military points. Score 1 Military point for each territory — your Home included — where you have more Guards than any other player. A tie scores nothing.
| Turtle level | Requirement and reward (kept secret until the end) |
|---|---|
| 3 | Meet one requirement: Women in 3+ Productive Areas, Hunters in 3+, or 3+ Canoes; take the tile from the top of that Turtle pile and score 1 point on its track (FAQ, FAQ). |
| 4 | Meet one requirement: Women in 4+ Productive Areas, Hunters in 4+, or 4+ Canoes; score 2 points on the tile’s track. You may take a lower-level Turtle even if you own a higher one (FAQ). |
| 5 | Meet one requirement: Women in 5+ Productive Areas, Hunters in 5+, or all 5 Canoes; score 2 points on one of the two tracks shown. Shawnee need one fewer Woman, Hunter or Canoe for every Turtle (FAQ). |
Home Productive Areas count. Full Turtle rules: Scoring.
[Allies] With New Allies you can also take Rifle Turtles (New Allies).
Mask Ceremony
Two steps, in this order:
- Draw one Mask card: the top of the deck, or the top face-up card of the discard pile. If you take the last discard, turn over the next deck card to restart the pile. An empty deck is reshuffled.
- Play a combination of
Mask cards from your hand that matches an empty
space of the Ceremonial Mask area (no Mask disk on it). Move your Mask disk there and score its
Mask points at once. Leave the played cards face up in front of you.
You may hold several Mask Ceremonies in a year, but each card is played only once per year, and the space your disk is on is not empty — you cannot repeat the same combination twice in a row. Played cards return to your hand at the Restore. The blanket at the bottom of the card has no effect here.
The Ceremonial Mask area
There are four Mask faces, nine cards each. Separate cards on a space mean different Masks; overlapping cards mean identical Masks.
| Space | Mask points |
|---|---|
| 2 different Masks | 1 |
| 2 identical (a pair) | 2 |
| 3 different | 2; all three cards must show different Masks (FAQ) |
| 3 identical | 3 |
| 2 pairs | 3 |
| 4 different | 4 |
| 4 identical | 4 |
| 3 different pairs | 5; the three pairs must each use a different Mask (FAQ) |
| 2 sets of 3 identical | 5 |

Trade
Three steps, in this order. Each is optional and can be done once.
Exchange and Smallpox
Trade Resources with the supply: one Resource for another, any kinds, up to one per Canoe you have in play.
Then comes the Smallpox check: reveal the top Mask card and look at its blanket.
An infected blanket makes you move one of your Natives (your choice, Home
included) to your Long House, Women and Hunters grey side up.
A clean blanket
does nothing. The card goes face up on the discard pile.

Buy a Progress tile
Buy one Progress tile per Trade action:
| Level | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 2 Leather, 2 Fish, 2 different Vegetables |
| 3 | 3 Leather, 3 Fish, 3 different Vegetables (one of each) |
When you buy it you score 1, 2 or 3 points (by its level) on the Economic track, then the same on the track the tile shows — “Lowest” or “Highest” means your currently lowest or highest track (your choice if tied). Its power works once per year: flip the tile to use it; it comes back at the Restore. All 30 tiles: Cards & Components.
Buy Economic points
Return up to five different Resources to the supply and score that many Economic points.
[Allies] Some Turn cards let Beavers stand in for Resources here (Turn cards).
Sacred Fire
Activate any other tile of your grid — even a Ritual tile — except the tiles
in the line you are using this year. Put your Sacred Fire marker on it to show it is used. No tile
can be activated twice in a year.
At the Restore, the tile under the Fire marker is not flipped (just remove the marker); the Sacred Fire tile itself flips as usual. The Ottawa’s starting Fire tile never flips.
Ritual
On the Ritual side of every tile, never on an Action side. Two steps:
- Move 2 Natives of your choice (same or different kinds) from your Long House to your Home (FAQ).
- Score Ritual points equal to your smallest group in your Home: Warriors, Women or Hunters.
Two Rituals in a row can score more the second time, as your Home has grown.
[Allies] Patrols in your Home are not Warriors for the Ritual (New Allies).
