Conditions and Effects
The Networks: Primetime additional rules — discarding and reshuffling, star and ad conditions, promo ads, show and star effects, and the Classic Turns variant.
Discarding cards
All discards go face up to one public discard area near the genre board. When a deck runs out, shuffle the discards of that type into a new deck (p. 12).
- A star or ad that leaves a show is always discarded — it never returns to your green room and never goes to your reruns, unless an effect says so (Gray Fox, Rerun Guy, Spinoff).
- Shows are only ever discarded from the display. A show in your lineup is always canceled to your reruns instead. If the show deck runs out, shuffle the discarded A and B shows together.
Star and ad conditions
A star or ad with condition icons in its bottom left gives its full value only on a show that meets
the condition. If the show does not meet it, attach the card upside down
, showing the
gray values on its left side (p. 12).
| Condition | Met when |
|---|---|
| The show is of that genre (or of either genre, when two are shown) | |
| The show sits in that timeslot — the slot it actually occupies, not its preferred one | |
| The show has at least 1 other star attached (the card never counts itself) | |
| With an ad | The show has at least 1 other ad attached |
| The show has no other ads attached | |
| You have at least 2 network cards in your green room as you attach it | |
| You may pay the amount when attaching; otherwise rotate it (Promo ads) |
Conditions only matter at the moment you attach. Check them after everything is on the show (FAQ); afterwards the card stays the way it went on and only an effect can turn it.
Promo ads
Promos advertise your own network. When you attach one you may pay its cost (
$3M) to
keep it rightside up — then it adds viewers and income — or not pay and attach it upside down for
income only (p. 13).
Show and star effects
Some shows and stars have an effect on a black strip at the bottom. Show effects work while the show is in your lineup; star effects resolve when the star is attached (some when it is discarded). Each named card is clarified on Cards and Components.
Classic Turns variant
For experienced groups of 2–5 (it can lengthen the game a lot at high counts): the first round runs in normal clockwise order with turn-order tokens. At the end of each round, rank players by that round’s viewers, lowest first, and give turn-order tokens in that order — the lowest scorer goes first. A tie goes to whoever was later in the previous order (p. 14).
