Official combined-game setup and rules for the base game with The Golden Temples.

What it adds

The Golden Temples is a separate game that has official combined rules with this base game. The combination is for experienced players. You may play base + Golden Temples, or base + Golden Temples + Heroes & Hexes; Heroes & Hexes cannot be combined with Golden Temples alone. See the BGG Golden Temples rules file and its game page.

Setup changes

Each player takes the usual base-game pawn(s), expedition board and starting deck. Do not use Golden Temples’ base decks. Build a combined route from the example route in the official setup sheet; that sheet is not available in the checked source set, so exact tile order and route setup remain To be added.

The combined market

Use all base-game cards and the Golden Temples cards marked for the combined game; leave Golden Temples base cards in the box. Separate the cards into their piles. Put the marked base-game piles on the market board and add the marked Golden Temples cards as specified by their market symbols. For the remaining cards, shuffle one of each type into a replenishment deck. Draw 12 cards; add the other two matching cards to each to form twelve piles of three beside the board. Keep the replenishment deck face down.

When a player buys an off-board pile, move its remaining cards onto the empty board space as usual. Then draw the next replenishment card and its two matching cards to form a new off-board pile. Later off-board purchases therefore have a changing range of choices.

Ending and caves

Only two temples are used in the combined route. The treasure chamber opens after a player has collected two different gems. Cave tokens are optional with the base game; when Heroes & Hexes is also included, caves are mandatory.

Component faces

The six three-space temple boards, all three gem colors, the guardian token back and all four distinct guardian power faces are pictured in Cards & Components. Each power appears twice in the component photo. Golden Temples expedition-card faces remain outside this combined-mode guide because its market rules cover only the card piles marked for the combined game.
