Full Game: Leaders
Lorenzo il Magnifico's advanced rules: drafting the advanced Personal Bonus Tiles, the Leader draft, requirements, playing, discarding and activating Leaders, and all 20 base-game Leaders.
The advanced rules
The basic game is for learning. From your second game add two things:
- Advanced Personal Bonus Tiles. Lay the tiles out advanced side up. In reverse turn order, each player picks one. Each tile has its own mix of Harvest and Production bonuses.
- Leader cards. Shuffle the 20 Leaders and deal 4 to each player. Keep one, pass the rest to the player on your right, and repeat until everyone holds 4.

[HoR] With Houses of Renaissance the Family tile auction comes between these two steps (setup changes).
Leader cards
Each Leader shows requirements at the top and an ability at the bottom.
- Requirements are not costs. You only need to have them when you play the card — cards of a type, resources, or points on a track. Losing them later changes nothing.
- A “MAXIMUM” requirement is met by any amount up to it, including 0.
- The ability is either once per round (marked “1x”) or permanent.

Leader actions
During the Actions phase, on your turn, you may take any number of Leader actions without placing a Family Member, before or after your placement:
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Discard a Leader | Discard a Leader from your hand for 1 |
| Play a Leader | If you meet its requirements, put it face up next to your Personal Board. |
| Use a once-per-round ability | Turn the played Leader face down and resolve the ability. |
Permanent abilities simply apply whenever they fit — and you must use them. At the end of the round turn every face-down Leader face up again.

Leader rulings
- Ludovico il Moro is compulsory: a rolled 6 becomes 5.
- Lucrezia Borgia’s and Sigismondo Malatesta’s bonuses add to servants and Character bonuses.
- Brunelleschi also waives the 3 coins when a card effect takes a card from an occupied tower.
- Pico della Mirandola works on every card you take, any number of times a turn.
- Santa Rita doubles only immediate effects of Development cards, not action spaces.
[HoR] Houses of Renaissance adds 20 more Leaders, some with an action ability — a private action space (new Leaders). [Pazzi] The Pazzi Conspiracy adds 4 (its Leaders).
