Sell Goods and Trade with the Nobles
Lisboa’s portfolio actions: selling goods to any player’s ships, and trading goods with the Nobles for the six State actions — Officials, Plans, ships, production, the Cardinal and Royal Favors.
After you play a card into your portfolio you take one of these two actions — never both.
Action 1: Sell Goods
Sell one or more goods. For each good:
- Choose a docked ship with room — a Ship card in any player’s portfolio, yours included.
- Move the good from your warehouse onto an empty dock space under that ship.
- Take réis from the Royal Treasury: the good’s market price plus the ship’s price modifier (and any sales benefit of your own).
You may sell as many goods as you like, to as many ships as you like, up to their hull sizes (FAQ).
Ships setting sail
When a ship’s dock is full (goods = hull size), it sets sail at once. Its owner — not the
seller — turns those goods face down and earns
1 wig per crate. The ship takes no goods
until it docks at the start of its owner’s next turn (Dock your ships).
The market
The market track at the bottom of the board shows each good’s price, 1 to 6. Prices only ever go down: 1 step for each type of good that is produced (Produce goods). Selling does not change them, and a price at 1 stays at 1.
Action 2: Trade with the Nobles
Trade 1 or 2 goods, each for a different State action. For each good:
- Pick one of the six State actions on the white banners of the Nobles’ offices that has no good on it yet.
- Cover it with a good that Noble accepts:
| Noble | Accepts | State actions |
|---|---|---|
- Carry out the State action. Finish one action before the second: goods you produce with the first can pay for the second.
The covered actions stay blocked until the end of your turn — also for players following a visit.
The State actions
The same six actions are also what you may take for free when you visit a Noble, and what a Royal Favor lets you follow.
Recruit State Officials
Move up to 2 Officials from your player board into 2 different Nobles’
offices. If an office is full, find the colour with the most Officials there and move one of them
down to that office’s plaza; on a tie, move one of each tied colour.
- Officials in an office make that Noble dearer to visit for everyone else.
- Officials in an office or plaza can staff a Public Building.
- No Officials left on your board: you can’t recruit.
Acquire a Plan
Take the top Plan of either architect (green or blue) and put it architect side up on
your board. You may hold any number of Plans of both architects. The stacks are sorted so that
later Plans need more Officials — and score more at the end.
Get a Royal Favor
Take a Royal Favor tile of a Noble you don’t have yet (one per Noble at most).
It lets you Follow a Visit to that Noble on another player’s turn, and
each one still on your board scores 2 wigs at the end.
Why each State action matters
| Action | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Staff Public Buildings, and make visits dearer for rivals | |
| Needed to open Public Buildings; bigger Plans win the jobs majority | |
| Influence now, and wigs whenever anyone fills them | |
| Goods to trade, sell and build ships with | |
| Clergy tiles: lasting powers, later wigs and Influence | |
| An extra action on someone else’s turn |
