End of Period, End of Game and Scoring

When Lisboa’s first period ends and what happens then, how the end of the game is triggered, every endgame scoring step with its tables, tie-breaks and the 2-player changes.

A game of Lisboa spans 22 years in two periods of unknown length. Two clocks drive both endings: rubble sets completed by any player and the Political card decks of the display running out.

End of the period

The first period ends as soon as a player completes their 2nd rubble set, or 3 of the 4 decks of the Political card display are empty. Finish the current turn (including its follows and refills), discard only the Political cards left in the display, not the Decrees (FAQ). Then:

  1. Wigs for rubble: every player earns wigs (victory points) 3 wigs per completed rubble set on their board.
  2. Hand discard: starting with the player who triggered the end and going clockwise, each player may discard any number of cards from hand. For one card of each Noble discarded (Manuel, Marquis, King), take its bottom reward; ignore penalties. Treasury cards give nothing.
  3. New ships: discard the ships left in the shipyard and stack the purple size-3 ships on the brown size-4 ships there.
  4. New hand: everyone draws back to 5 cards from the purple deck (1763–1768); the rest of that deck goes back to the box.
  5. New display: deal the brown deck (1769–1777) into the Event display as you did the red one at setup, and turn the top cards face up.

Refill the Church track and the Decree display if needed, and play on with the player after the one whose turn it was.

Rubble sets and the pace

Your board has room for 5 rubble sets. Each completed set:

Racing your rubble sets is a way to end the game while you are ahead.

End of the game

The end is triggered as soon as a player completes their 4th rubble set, or 3 of the 4 display decks are empty again (brown cards). Finish the current round, so that everyone has had the same number of turns, then play one more full round, then score.

Follows are allowed in the final round.

Endgame scoring

Add the following to the wigs on the track. Use any marker on the icons in the bottom-right corner of the board to keep track.

Store majorities

For each business, compare how many stores each player owns. No stores of a type, no wigs for it. If players tie, share the places they occupy and round down (for example, tied for first and second share those two prizes) (FAQ).

With 2 players, only the most and 3rd-most columns are used.

Officials at work

Count the Officials shown on your completed Plans (not the Plans themselves). No completed Plan, no wigs.

Ties in both majorities: add up the places the tied players occupy and share them, rounded down (FAQ).

Influence and money

Move down your Influence track for its réis (as if spending it), add the coins in hand, and score 1 wig per 5 réis. The Influence marker itself doesn’t move.

More examples

Green’s size-2 and two size-3 ships score 8 wigs; Orange’s 3 rubble sets 9; Yellow’s two Decrees 2 + 6 = 8; Green’s King and Marquis favors 4.

Tiebreakers

Most wigs wins. On a tie: most rubble sets, then most stores, then most completed Plans, then most money. Still tied: you share the satisfaction of having rebuilt Lisboa.
