Influence and the Royal Treasury
How Lisboa’s Influence track works — gaining it from your top cards, the wig at 10, spending it on visits or instead of réis — and how the Royal Treasury track sets prices and visit costs.
Two tracks run the economy of the court: your Influence opens the Nobles’ doors, and the Royal Treasury sets what money is worth.
Influence

Influence runs from 0 to 10 on its track. Players start on 4, 5, 6 and 7 in turn
order, so later players can afford an early visit. Some spaces show a real: they matter when you
spend Influence instead of money.
Gaining Influence
Whenever you gain Influence, you gain the total printed at the top of every Noble and Ship card in your docks. The two main moments are building a ship and Church scoring; some rewards and Clergy tiles also say so.
- The track stops at 10; any excess is lost. But each time a gain ends on 10 — even if you were
already there — you earn
1 wig. - Influence never goes below 0, and 0 has no penalty.
| You gain Influence when you… | How much |
|---|---|
| Total on your top cards, the new ship included | |
| Total on your top cards | |
| take an Influence reward (card, land space, starting task) | The number shown — a Noble card reward is 3 |
| hold Clergy tile 7 | +2 on every gain |
Tucking a Noble card gives no Influence by itself: its Influence only counts in later gains.
Spending Influence
Influence is spent in only two ways: to Visit or Follow a Noble (cost) and instead of réis.
Spending Influence instead of money
Whenever you have to pay réis, you may pay any part of it with Influence: for each real, move your marker left to the next space showing a real. You never take coins this way — it only pays what you owe. At 0 Influence you can’t do it any more.
The Royal Treasury
The Treasury track pairs an Influence modifier (left) with a réis value
(right). It starts on 3 réis / 0 Influence.
| Treasury | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Influence modifier (Visit / Follow cost) | +1 | +1 | 0 | −1 | −1 |
The réis value is what a Treasury card pays when tucked, what a sponsored event costs, the base of every land price and the wage of each hired Official. The Influence modifier is added to the cost of every Visit and Follow (a total below 0 counts as 0).
- Down 1: a Treasury card goes into a portfolio (money leaves the Treasury).
- Up 1: a ship is built, or the Cardinal reaches or passes the Treasury icon.
- Selling goods does not move it — foreign traders pay you, not the Crown.
