Solo: Lacerda
Lisboa’s official solitaire rules: setting up against the automated rival Lacerda, his five-step turn, his State and Noble actions, his scoring and the four ranks you can reach at court.
You play against Lacerda, an automated rival, with the normal rules for yourself and a 2-player setup (Setup). Solo design: Julián Pombo and Vital Lacerda.
Setup changes

- Set up for 2 players; you take the Starting Player marker.
- Lacerda has no player board, cards, money or goods. He gets his Officials, wooden houses, 1 random Royal Favor and 2 random Starting Plans, all in his play area.
- Place the Scoring tiles so that no two of the same value are next to each other.
- The Helper: take an Official of a third colour. Reveal a blue card and put the Helper above the red Event deck of the figure on that card (Builder, Minister, King or Treasury); discard the card.
- First Public Building: Helper above the Builder or Minister deck — put the top blue-architect Public Building west of row D. Above the King or Treasury deck — the top green-architect one east of row D. Discard that site’s cubes.
- His Courtier: reveal blue cards until a Noble appears; put Lacerda’s Courtier on that Noble’s portrait.
Lacerda’s turn
After each of your turns, Lacerda does, in order:
- Moves his Courtier one Noble to the right (from the King back to the Builder).
- Takes a State action of that Noble (below).
- Takes the Noble action, paying Influence (below).
- Discards the top card of the Event deck under his Helper, if any.
- Moves the Helper up to the next deck; from the top deck it loops back to the bottom one. Empty decks are skipped.
Which State action
Helper above the King or Treasury deck: the top State action of the office. Above the Builder or Minister deck: the bottom one. If he can’t do it, he skips it.

His State actions
| State action | What Lacerda does |
|---|---|
| Takes the top Plan with the most Officials (tie: the blue architect’s) | |
| Moves 2 Officials to the 2 offices where he has fewest (tie: from the left). His Officials are never pushed out | |
| Takes the top ship, free. You may sell to it as usual. Treasury up 1; he gains the ship’s Influence plus the Influence on top of your portfolio | |
| Takes the goods his stores produce and lowers prices as usual. No warehouse limit | |
| Moves the Cardinal 2 spaces, discards the tile in front of him and scores its wigs; Treasury and Church icons work as usual | |
| Takes a favor he lacks, from the Builder rightwards |
At Church scoring he discards nothing but always gains the Influence on top of your portfolio plus his ships’ Influence.
His Noble actions
He always pays the usual Influence, in wigs if he lacks it. You may follow his visit with the right Royal Favor, and he always follows yours when he holds that favor — taking the Noble action.
Builds a store
- The free downtown space that gives him the most wigs now; tie: leftmost space of the topmost row. If two businesses fit and score the same, the one facing left.
- He ignores the space’s reward and pays nothing; he takes the cheapest cube of that row or column (both: the one at the bottom of the column).
- The store scores as usual. With no wooden houses left he can’t build.
Takes Decrees
He takes the 2 leftmost Decrees, slides the rest left and refills two. Each scores 3 wigs at the end. Decree #69 is discarded and replaced when it comes out.
Opens a Public Building
- The site that gives him the most relative wigs (his minus yours); tie: the free site closest to the west end of row D, going clockwise.
- Equal buildings: Helper above the King or Treasury deck — the green architect’s; otherwise the blue.
- He ignores the reward, takes both cubes, and uses no Plan and no Officials.
End of period and scoring
He never completes rubble sets, so he can’t trigger the end of the period. At the end of the period he scores 1 wig per Rubble cube.
Score yourself as in a 2-player game. Lacerda scores:
| Source | Wigs |
|---|---|
| Their hull sizes | |
| 1 per cube | |
| As usual (2-player table) | |
| Nothing | |
| 3 each | |
| 2-player table | |
| 2 each |
