Buildings and St. Barbara
Kutná Hora guild buildings and production, the Miners' guild and mining technology, public buildings and the patrician pool, every building effect, and the 11 St. Barbara Cathedral tiles.
Guild buildings
There are 24 guild buildings, 4 for each of the 6 guilds. You can buy rights to and build only the guilds on your board.
| Guild | Commodity | Price stand |
|---|---|---|
| Metallurgists | Silver | Ore |
| Ore | Ore | |
| Wood | Population | |
| Permits | Ore | |
| Food | Population | |
| Beer | Population |
Production
Building a guild building raises your production of its commodity by the
number on the tile: move that guild’s production counter on your board. Most
guild buildings also move their commodity’s
arm one notch right, so the price
falls for everyone. Production can go past 10: leave the counter on 10 and track the rest with a
spare counter.

Every building tile shows, top left, its dots for final scoring; top centre its
wood cost; top right the plot cost for squares beside it; then its effects.
Miners guild
A Miners’ guild building raises your ore production and advances the ore deck by the same amount — it never moves an arm. Your board has two ore tracks so you can keep ore from buildings and ore from mines apart; both count the same at Income.
Mining technology
Miners’ guild buildings such as the Pump and the Smithy show this symbol. Draw the top mining technology
tile and play it at once as a free mine: any square a new mine could use, no wood, marked with a
free miner from the reserve beside your pool (use a pool miner only if the reserve is empty).
Taking it raises the mining technology level, so every later Mine action draws more tiles.
Public buildings
The 12 buildings with a patrician on them — 3 each of green, silver, yellow and red — are public: anyone may buy their rights and build them, but nobody owns them.
- No house, so no house effect.
- No production and no income.
- No points for their owner at the end — but your own buildings beside them can score more in green patrician scoring and in city dots.
- Strong immediate effects: reputation, pelicans, points.
Patrician pool
Every public building shows
a patrician: take a token of that colour from
the bank and put it on the rainbow space in the middle of the town hall board. In the pool it does
nothing yet; anyone can seat it on the council during an Income action.
Only 3 tokens of each colour exist; with none left in the bank, ignore that part.
Building effects
| Symbol | Effect |
|---|---|
| Raise your production of that commodity by the number | |
| Move that commodity’s arm one notch right | |
| Play the top mining technology tile as a free mine with a free miner | |
| Advance the ore deck by the number | |
| Advance the population deck by the number | |
| Score the points now | |
| Gain that much reputation | |
| Take that many pelican tokens, purple side up | |
| Raise the tax by the number | |
| Move that patrician from the bank to the pool | |
| Remove the leftmost house of any row of your board; ignore its effect | |
| Flip the current St. Barbara tile: nobody gets its benefit; add its tax |
St. Barbara Cathedral
The 11 tiles of the cathedral stand outside the town. The lowest-numbered face-up tile is the current one. Two things flip it:
- the St. Barbara action: you get its benefit and ignore its tax;
- a guild building with : nobody gets its benefit and the tax rises by the number at the bottom of the tile.
With all 11 tiles flipped, the flip symbol does nothing. St. Barbara actions still flip a pelican and give 2 reputation; if a guild building flips tile 11, no one gets its 5 points and no tax is added. (FAQ, FAQ). One St. Barbara action uses only one pelican token (FAQ).

You may skip the middle part of a tile and keep the rest — for example take tile 6’s 2 points without seating a patrician. Tile 3’s reputation loss is not optional, but removing the house is.
