The Actions
Every Kutná Hora action step by step: Mine, Rights, Plot, Building with house effects, Income with the town council, St. Barbara and the Joker.
The Mine action
Mining raises your ore production and puts stars in the mine rows for final scoring.
- Check your miner pool. If it is empty you must first pay one
permit (its
current price) to move up to 2 miners from the reserve beside it into the pool. With one miner
left you may refill the same way, still for one permit. The pool never holds more than 2. - Draw mine tiles and keep 1. Draw as many tiles as the current mining technology level shows (1 at the start). Keep one and discard the rest. If the stack runs out, shuffle the discards into a new stack — tiers I, II and III are mixed from then on.
- Choose a square and pay. See where you can dig.
- Place the tile, put a miner from your pool on it and resolve it (see evaluating a mine).
Where you can dig
- On one of the two mine entrances printed on the board: cost
2. - On an empty square beside or below a mine already built: cost = the wood cost printed on that neighbouring mine. If several mines apply, pay the highest, not the sum.
- Never on a rock tile or an existing mine. A mine does not open or price the square above it.
Evaluating a mine
| Symbol on the tile | Effect |
|---|---|
| Count for the mine rows at the end | |
| Raise your ore production by that much | |
| Advance the ore deck by that number — it always matches the ore production you gain | |
| Advance the population deck by that number | |
| Score them now | |
| The wood cost for squares beside and below this tile |
The Rights action
You need the exclusive rights to a building before you can build it.
- Choose a tile on the town hall board — only the top tile of a stack. A guild building must belong to one of your 3 guilds; any player may take a public building.
- Pay: the leftmost column costs 1 groschen; the other columns cost 1, 2 or 3
permits as printed under them. - Keep the tile in one of the 3 slots above your board. All 3 full: no Rights action.
- Move that stack to the end of its row and slide the other stacks left into the gap.
Because stacks always slide left, the 3-permit column stays empty until the red-patrician buildings arrive.
The Plot action
Before you can build in the town you must claim a plot.
- Choose the square.
- No buildings in town yet: any free square for 5 groschen.
- Otherwise: a free square sharing a side with a building. Pay the plot cost printed in the building’s top right corner — the highest if it touches several.
- Every square beside a building already claimed: any free square for 5 groschen again.
- With
reputation 3 or more, every plot costs 1 groschen.
- Place your leftmost plot marker on it. You can never have more than 3 plots claimed, and having more than one at tax time costs extra.
The Building action
With a building tile in your slots and a plot in town, you can build.
- Pick one of your plots and return its marker to the rightmost empty space on your board.
- Place the tile on that square and pay its
wood cost at the current wood price. - Resolve the effects printed on the tile (key on Buildings).
- Turn the tile face down — its effects are done; the back still shows its dots.
- Guild building only: mark it with a house from your board and resolve the house effect.
House effects
Each row of houses on your board belongs to one of your guilds. Building a guild building takes the leftmost house of that guild’s row; the space it leaves shows the reward:
| Symbol | Reward |
|---|---|
| Take the top tile of any public building stack for free, then move that stack to the end | |
| Take a pelican token (purple side up) | |
| Gain that much reputation | |
| Score those points now |
A public building gets no house: no house effect, no ownership.
The Income action
The only way to get money. Add up all your production, each commodity at its current
price, and take that many groschen.
Adding a patrician to the council
After collecting, you may pay
10 groschen once to move
one
patrician from the pool on the town hall board to its scoring space. Patricians reach the pool
when public buildings are built; on the council they score for everyone at the end of each of
the last 3 rounds (patrician scoring).
The St. Barbara action
Turn one unused
pelican token from purple to silver (no unused
token: no St. Barbara action). Then resolve the current St. Barbara tile and turn it face down.
Tiles are current in number order: bottom row left to right, then the middle row, then the top.
- Ignore the tax printed on the tile — that tax applies only when a guild building flips it.
- After tile 11, every St. Barbara action gives 2 reputation.
The 11 tiles are listed on Buildings and St. Barbara.
The Joker
Take any one of the other actions. First lose 1
reputation —
unless your reputation is 6 or more, when the Joker is free.
