Phase 5: Economic Activities
How Florenza's Workshops produce and get built space by space, how the Market, the Family Business and the Captains of Fortune pay out, and the 30 Workshops by category.
Two kinds of activity
Phase 5 resolves what Kinsmen were sent to do in Phase 4 (except Artworks, which wait for Phase 6):
- District activities — every Kinsman on a Workshop tile acts, in a fixed order.
- Other economic activities — the Market, the Family Business and the Captains of Fortune, which each player uses whenever they like during the phase, regardless of turn order.
District activities
The order is space by space, then turn order:
- Starting with the first player and following the Turn Order Track, each player checks the Workshop on space 1 of their District. If a Kinsman is on it — anyone’s — that Kinsman acts. No Kinsman, nothing happens.
- When every space 1 is done, do every space 2 in turn order, and so on up to space 8.
A Kinsman on a Built Workshop produces; one on an Under Construction Workshop builds it. Then the Kinsman goes back to its owner’s pool.
Workshop production
The Kinsman uses the Workshop’s ability. The person who owns the Kinsman gets the benefit:
- Resources, Fiorini,
Prestige or
Church Influence shown → take them
from the supply or move your marker. - A conversion (something → arrow → something) → you may pay the left side to get the right side.
If you cannot meet the requirement, the Kinsman goes home with no effect.
Workshop construction
Pay the Resources and Fiorini printed on the Under Construction side, turn the tile to Built,
and score its
immediate reward (Prestige or Church Influence) if it has one. It can
be used from the next round.
Cannot or will not pay? Put the tile back in the supply, the Kinsman back in your pool, and lose 1 Prestige Point. The space stays empty: the next Workshop you build must fill it.
Other economic activities
Use these at any time in Phase 5, then take the Kinsman back.
Trade at the market
Taking your Kinsman off the Market, do any of these, once each and in this order:
| Step | Trade |
|---|---|
| 1. Sell | 1 Resource → 100 Fiorini |
| 2. Buy | 200 Fiorini → 1 Resource |
| 3. Trade | any 2 Resources → 1 different Resource |
All your chosen steps happen in one go. Players may never trade with each other.
Family Business income
Take each Kinsman off the Family Business space for 50 Fiorini apiece.
Captains of Fortune payment
Take each Kinsman off a Captain of Fortune card, choose a row — how many Fiorini you pay — and take its rewards. Paying nothing (or being unable to pay) gives the top row, which always costs you something.
The Workshops
Thirty kinds of Workshop, in six categories (the solitaire die numbers are on the Solitaire page). Each tile’s exact cost and output is printed on it and on your Building/Artwork table.
