The board

Unfold the game board. Its 52 large spaces are Locations around the world.
Shuffle the 20 Location tiles face down and put one on every empty, unprinted space in the top-left corner of a Location; then turn them all face up. None are left over.
Sort the Tycoon tiles into 4 levels by the hats on their backs, shuffle each level face down and stack it above its space along the top edge of the board. Lay 2 tiles of each level face up below its stack.
Sort the Contract tiles into 4 stacks by their backs, shuffle each face down and put it left of its space in the Contract area (bottom left). Lay the top tile of each stack face up on its space.
Sort the Patent tiles by their fronts into 6 stacks next to the board.
Sort the Technology tiles and the Super Technology tiles by type into face-up stacks next to the board, and the banknotes by value. Everything beside the board is the general supply.

Solo: the Automa

Deal 1 Personal Objective tile of each type (A, B, C) to you and to the Automa. Place yours as you like; the Automa’s go A, B, C from top to bottom.
Set up the board as for 2 players and yourself as usual. Take 2 player boards of an unused colour for the Automa.
Automa: 7 Credit tokens on its board; 7 Wireless Stations on its board alternating Modulated and Unmodulated side up, and 2 below it (one of each side); 2 Signal tokens in its Ready area and 28 on the Progress column; its 12 Flags beside its board.
Put the Automa’s Permanent Link marker on space “3”, and a Patent tile (either side) on the Basic Action Box of its Transmission column.
The Automa is the first player.
You pick one of the 2 starting groups as usual. Discard the other group’s Location Starting tile; its Tycoon and Technology Starting tiles go in the matching columns of the Automa’s board.
Put 1 Signal token of an unused colour on every Contract Location (for an easier game, on every Flag Location instead).
Sort the 14 solo Installation tiles into 2 face-down stacks of 7 by type. Reveal the top tile of each and put it on its numbered Location with an Automa Wireless Station; move 3 Signal tokens (2 if the space already holds a neutral token) from the matching Progress track to the Automa’s Ready area, and give the Automa that Location’s bonus.
Make the Automa’s 4 face-down Action tile stacks from 21 of its Action tiles (Installation / Transmission / Modulation / Funding): Group A 2/1/1/2, Groups B and C 2/1/1/1 each, Group D 1/1/1/2. They are used A, B, C, D.

Each player

Choose a colour and put its 2 player boards side by side in front of you.
Sort your 12 Action tiles by action. Put 1 of each type on the bottom (starting) space of its column — the space marked $5 or with a black Tycoon hat — and keep the other 2 of each type in your personal supply below that column.
Put your 7 Credit tokens on their spaces at the right edge of the right player board.
Put 8 Wireless Stations on the spaces numbered 2–9 of the right player board and the ninth below that area, next to the board. Either side may show.
Put 2 Signal tokens in your Ready area and the other 28 on the Progress column: 4 tracks of 7.
Put your 12 Flag tiles next to your boards, in any order.
Take $8 from the general supply.
Put your Permanent Link marker on space “0” of the Permanent Links track at the bottom of the board.

Starting positions

Take 2 Location Starting tiles at random and turn them all to the same side, America or Europe (agree together). Then reveal 2 random Tycoon Starting tiles and 2 random Technology Starting tiles. Return the rest to the box.
Make random groups of 3: one Location, one Tycoon and one Technology Starting tile each.

Starting right of the first player and going counterclockwise each player picks 1 tile; then from the first player clockwise a second; then again from the right of the first player counterclockwise a third. Everyone must end with one A, one B and one C.
Put your Permanent Link marker on space “0” of the Permanent Links track at the bottom of the board.
