Common mistakes

  • Assuming a diagonal move avoids a dotted line even when it reaches the same space as moving straight. Ruling · Rule
  • Skipping a safe stop during Flat Out because the roll caused a crash; the Focus reward is still earned. Ruling · Rule
  • Treating a crash as ending the entire race instead of resolving it at the hazard space and continuing later. Ruling · Rule

Does crossing a dotted line affect the next space, and can a diagonal move avoid it? Official

Crossing a sharp-corner line directly makes its speed limit apply to the next space. A diagonal route avoids that limit only if it actually changes the destination; if it ends in the same space as a straight move, resolve it as a straight crossing.

Do I still gain Focus if a Flat Out roll causes a Loss of Control?

Yes. Take one Focus token for each Gear or Coast die included in the Flat Out roll, even if the roll ends in a crash. Brake dice do not earn Focus.

If another car leaves you no safe legal move, you are blocked and may end your turn in your current space and gear. A community example explains how a car can block both the available passing line and the safe corner route; see the linked discussion.

Why may I rearrange my dice after a failed Flat Out roll? Official

A crash still happens, but you may rearrange the rolled dice along any legal path that continues to cause the Loss of Control. The designer explains that this preserves a chance to limit the resulting damage and prevents mistakes when players collect the dice to roll them.

Does crossing the finish line first win immediately?

Yes. The first car to cross the line is the winner. Players may continue to determine the other finishing places.

Which car is ordered first, one at 0 or one at 00?

The current 2024 English core rules treat Gear 0 as higher than Gear 00, and cars already on the track take their turns before cars off it. If two cars are due to re-enter, the one that left the track first goes first. If the return space is occupied, the car stays off track and loses another turn. Follow that printed order.

May I change my planned route while rolling one die at a time? Official

Yes. Designer Jean-Christophe Bouvier clarified that a driver may choose a better trajectory during a one-by-one turn, including moving unrolled white Coast dice to a different legal route. Already rolled results still apply.

Must I roll every planned die, and is there a minimum number for Flat Out?

When rolling one by one, you may stop before rolling all planned dice, provided you have not suffered a Loss of Control; any die already rolled must be applied. Flat Out rolls all the dice chosen for that move at once. The current rules specify no minimum number of dice for Flat Out; community players discuss one- and two-die examples in the linked threads.

What if two or four Weather Change tokens are drawn in one Loss of Control? Official

The tokens cancel each other, so no dashboard changes. The core rules specify that two or four Weather Change tokens from one Loss of Control have no effect; designer Jean-Christophe Bouvier confirmed the two-token case.

Can I choose Flying Start while rearranging dice after a failed Flat Out roll? Official

No. Declare Flying Start before rolling. Publisher account WhelpSlayer confirmed that you cannot add it during a Flat Out crash rearrangement; if you declared Flying Start before that roll, keep it when rearranging after a Loss of Control. The current rulebook separately says a hazard on the Gear 2 die ends the Flying Start after one space at Gear 2, without damage or dice rearrangement.

What happens if a car’s re-entry space is occupied? Official

The car cannot re-enter that turn and loses another turn before trying again. The current rulebook gives this rule for cars returning from the track edge or Pit Stop. Designer Jean-Christophe Bouvier also confirmed that a car returning after a Pit Stop can be blocked when the return space is occupied.

What are the maximum gears for GT4 and GT5 cars? Official

GT4 cars may use gears 1–4; GT5 cars may use gears 1–5. A Gear Damage token reduces the number of Gear dice you can use that turn, not a specific numbered die. Designer Jean-Christophe Bouvier confirmed the class limits; the current core rules specify how Gear Damage reduces the available dice.
