Place the scoring track in reach. Set the flame to round 1 and put the four seal tiles on their matching spaces with 0 face up. Shuffle the Fortune Teller deck and put it beside the track.
Put out the orange pumpkin book and the black ingredient book. For 2 players use its 2-player side; for 3 or 4 use the other side. Choose one complete set of green, blue, and red books. For a first game, use Set 1. Keep the yellow and purple books nearby for rounds 2 and 3.
Sort the ingredient chips by color beside their books. Leave the books and chips for sets not in play in the box.

Each player takes a pot, bag, flask, rat stone, scoring marker, droplet and matching 0/50 seal. Put the pot front-side up, droplet on 0, full flask on its trivet, rat stone beside it, and scoring marker on the matching 0 seal. Take 1 ruby and place it on the bag icon on your pot.
Put 4 white 1-chips, 2 white 2-chips, 1 white 3-chip, 1 orange 1-chip, and 1 green 1-chip in your bag.
