Scoring and Buying

Resolve every evaluation step in order, then improve your bag.

Find your scoring space

Your scoring space is the space immediately after the last chip placed. If you reach or pass the final pot space, place the last chip on 33 and use the spoon reward: 15 points and 35 coins. Exploded pots still have a scoring space, but have a choice later.

Resolve the evaluation

Resolve these phases in order. Start with the player who holds the Fortune Teller deck and continue clockwise when the rules call for player order.

PhaseWhat happens
A — Bonus dieThe furthest player whose pot did not explode rolls. If eligible players tie on the same space, each rolls. A farther scoring space wins a tie in printed point value.
B — Ingredient effectsResolve black, green and purple chip effects that wait until brewing ends, following each selected book.
C — RubiesEveryone whose scoring space shows a ruby gains one, even if their pot exploded. Do not take more rubies than the shared supply contains.
D — PointsPlayers take points shown on their scoring spaces. Exploded pots choose between this phase and shopping in phase E.
E — Buy chipsGain coins equal to the number of your scoring space, then buy one or two chips. If buying two, they must be different colors. Unavailable chip types cannot be bought.
F — Round endSpend two rubies for one droplet step or to refill a flask. You may do either more than once if you can pay. Remove rat stones, pass the Fortune Teller deck clockwise and advance the turn marker.

Exploded pots

An exploded pot misses phase A. It still resolves the applicable ingredient effects and ruby reward. Its player chooses either the points in D or the coin value and shopping in E; they cannot take both. A player who chooses points receives no coins to shop with. This tradeoff still applies in the final round: conversion of coins to points happens only after the shopping opportunity, so choosing points means you have no coins to convert.

Buying ingredients

The number on your scoring space is your coin budget, unless you reached the spoon space. Ingredient books list prices by chip value. Buy up to two chips, and they must be different colors. You may buy only chip types still available in the supply. Put new chips in your bag with all chips drawn this round. Coins left over do not carry forward.

Round 9 exchange and winner

After ordinary scoring, buying and round-end actions, convert any number of 5-coin or 2-ruby groups into points. You may alternate between coins and rubies. The player furthest along the score track wins. If tied, compare how far each tied player’s pot reached in the final round; if still tied, the win is shared.
