Peloton

Extra teams, road features, multiplayer variants, and solo bots.

Short tag: [Peloton]

What it adds

Peloton adds two teams (pink and white), widening the race to six players. It also includes cobblestone tiles, supply-zone tiles, breakaway tokens and rules for a one-rider-per-player race of up to twelve people. The same tiles can be added to smaller races when the route card permits them.

Setup changes

For five or six players, use the extra teams and the stage cards marked for that count. Give each new team its matching Rouleur and Sprinteur, player board and separate decks. For optional stages, use the 5–6 player Bonus tile and both Supply Zones as directed by the stage-design guidance. For the 7–12 player variant, each player controls one rider and players form two rider teams for race resolution as described by the official Peloton rulebook.

[Peloton] Solo mode replaces the standard multi-player setup. Choose one official bot system and set the human starting Exhaustion according to its difficulty rules; the full sequence is in Solo.

Supply zones

When a rider starts its turn inside a Supply Zone, every card counts as at least 4. The three-lane road offers room to manoeuvre. Use the tile’s lanes and entry/exit edges exactly as printed. The zone is especially useful in a large field but also creates an opportunity to spend a low card efficiently.

Cobblestones

A rider may move through other riders on a Cobblestone but cannot end movement on an occupied lane. If the destination square is fully occupied, stop in the first free lane behind it. Cobblestones have no slipstream to or from riders on the tile. The added terrain does not replace the base Energy, Movement or End phases.

Breakaways

The Breakaway tile is always the second tile after Start. Before round one, every player chooses one rider, draws four Energy cards, commits one face down, recycles the rest, then repeats for a second bid. In a 5–6 player game, the two highest totals enter the breakaway; with 2–4 players only the highest does. A tie goes to the rider farther back, then left. Breakaway riders remove both bid cards from the game and add two Exhaustion cards to their recycle pile; other riders recycle their bids and shuffle. It changes where a rider may begin and when the peloton catches the group; it does not alter how each rider chooses an Energy card.

Solo play

The official expansion’s solo mode recommends one Peloton and one Muscle team. Start the human team with three Exhaustion cards, split between its two riders; increase the handicap to make the race harder. Peloton bots use one shared Rouleur deck with two Attack! cards: a normal value moves both riders that many spaces, while Attack! moves the front rider 2 and rear rider 9. Muscle bots reveal separately for each rider and add one Muscle card to the Sprinteur deck. Bot teams never take Exhaustion.

Other player counts

For the 5–6 player race, each player controls a full two-rider team. The up-to-12 variant assigns one rider to each player and uses paired team play; read the Peloton player-count rules before setup. This version is not supported by the base-game setup checklist, which covers 2–4 players only.
