Seals, Distinctions and Special Actions
Wax Seals and the workers that carry them, silver and golden distinctions, the endgame points for trained workers, Special Action tiles and every Special and Crew action.
Wax Seals
Each worker has its own row of Wax Seal spaces on your personal board. A worker can only go to a space whose seal requirement its own row meets (Wax Seal requirements).
| Seal | Typical spaces |
|---|---|
| Exploration | |
| Navigation | |
| Correspondence | |
| Academy | |
| Counts as any colour for placement and Crew cards — not for Objectives or Beagle goals |
New seals come from the Academy and always fill a row from the left. The printed numbers on the row are the Coins you pay to fill that space.
Distinctions

A worker’s 4th seal gives it the
silver distinction, its 6th the
golden distinction. Each Diary section shows its bonuses in a box at the top. A worker with silver gets the silver bonus there; a worker with gold gets both the silver and the golden bonus.
The bonus is decided when the worker is placed: a seal gained during that action does not count until the worker’s next placement.

Endgame points for seals
A worker with 5 seals scores 3 victory points at the end, one with 6 scores 3 + 7 = 10. The points are printed above those seal columns.
Special Action tiles
Six random Special Action tiles (four in solo) fill the Special Action Diary; the two top ones start unlocked with the neutral Lens tokens. The others need a Lens first. Each tile shows its seal requirement and its action. The full list with pictures is on Cards & Components.
Special and Crew actions
These actions appear on Special Action tiles and Crew cards.
Establish Any Campsite
Put a Tent on any empty Tent space of any campsite, wherever your Explorers and Ship are, paying its cost. Do that campsite’s actions and the action uncovered on your board.
Repeat Delivery
Deliver a specimen whose Museum tile is already in the display; you need a Research token on it. Treat it as a first placement: Coins and Evolution steps for its row and column, and the extra step if its row is full. If that tile was the first delivered to its row, its first-delivery Coin is not taken again.
Automatically Fulfill an Objective
Achieve any one of your Objectives without meeting its requirements: put it face down on any open Objective space, pay that space’s cost and take its reward.
Gain Special Wax Seal (purple)
Take a Special Wax Seal from the silver plate and put it on the leftmost empty seal space of any worker row, without paying that space’s cost.
Gain Temporary Knowledge
Take one Temporary Knowledge token.
Convert Temporary Knowledge
Return one Temporary Knowledge token for 7 Coins or 7 victory points.
Place Explorer
Put an unused Explorer on the starting space of any island where you have no Explorer yet.
Perform Locked Action
Do all the actions of a locked space (no Lens on it). You do not unlock it, place no worker and need no seals.
Research Any Specimen
Put a Research token on any empty specimen of your board.
Move up to the HMS Beagle
Move your Ship to the HMS Beagle’s space. A Ship already level or ahead does not move back.
Distributed Correspondence
Place up to 4 Stamps, spread over any Envelopes you like.
Copy Crew Card
Do all the actions of any unachieved Crew card in front of any player, yours included.
