Objectives and Crew Cards
Gaining, holding and achieving Objective tiles, every requirement and every reward space of the personal board, and how Crew cards are achieved.
Objectives
You start with a pair of Starting Objectives (one silver, one golden) and take more with the Gain Objective action. An Objective shows requirements only; its reward is printed on the personal-board space where you put it.
Gaining Objectives
- New tiles go face up in your reserve, right of your Objective rows: room for two tiles, any colours.
- With the reserve full, a new tile must go face up on an empty Objective space of its colour on your board, paying that space’s Coin cost. It can never move from there, and only that tile can earn that space’s reward.
- No empty space of that colour left: you cannot take the tile.
Achieving an Objective
You may achieve Objectives at any time during your turn in the Action phase, or during the Reward phase. You need not do it the moment you meet them — but you must meet every requirement at the time you do.
- Check the requirements. Achieving costs nothing: you only need to have them.
- Flip the tile face down — in place if it is already on your board, or move it from your reserve to an empty space of its colour, paying that space’s Coin cost.
- Take the reward of that space at once.
Objective requirements
A symbol without a number means one of that thing.
| Icon | You must have |
|---|---|
| That many Regular Wax Seals of those colours, anywhere on your board | |
| That many Research tokens on specimens of that type | |
| That many Research tokens on specimens of that colour and shape (any type) | |
| That many empty Stamp stacks | |
| Your Evolution marker on or past that step (steps, not books) | |
| That many Tents on campsites | |
| That many personal Lens tokens placed | |
| Your Ship level with or ahead of the HMS Beagle | |
| At least that many victory points, Coins or Temporary Knowledge tokens (you keep them) |
Objective rewards

Each space shows an action and a few endgame victory points. All victory points on the personal board are scored at the end of the game.
| Row | Rewards (left to right) |
|---|---|
| Silver | |
| Golden |
Achieving both rightmost spaces (silver 5 and golden 8) adds 4 more points at the end.
Crew cards
Each Crew card has four parts:
- Top right: the Regular Wax Seal one of your workers takes at setup.
- Middle: the seals one worker must have (any order) to achieve the card.
- Bottom: the card’s action.
- Bottom right: its number, used for setup and the card list.
Achieving a Crew card
During the Action phase or the Reward phase, if one worker’s row holds at least the seals shown, do the card’s actions and flip it face down. Put it left of your board with its arrow pointing at that worker. That worker can never achieve another Crew card.
Special (purple) seals do count for Crew cards.
Temporary Knowledge does not.- After setup, a Crew card belongs to no particular worker until it is achieved.
