Actions

Beer Pioneers actions: the turn, the eight worker actions and the exchange, bonus actions after a worker action, the turn order action, the truck action and the administrative action.

Your turn

Play goes in the order of the coloured barrels on the turn order track. On your turn you must take exactly one of these actions, in any order over the round; a player who can’t act any more is skipped. The action phase ends when nobody can act.

ActionTimes per round
Worker action with a tagged worker (then maybe a bonus action)2 (3 with the neutral grey worker)
Turn order action with your untagged worker1
Truck action1 (2 with the neutral grey truck)
Administrative action on your brewery board1

Worker actions

Each of the 8 numbered action areas has two spaces: A (upper) and B (lower), each with an experience value. Place one tagged Worker on a free space and do the action; one worker per space. You may use both spaces of one area in the same round if both are free. With 2 or 3 players some spaces are covered by the setup card.

Action 1: Brewing beer

Start brewing: place as many brewing dials as your brewing level allows, each on a free, unlocked coop (Brewing beer).

Action 2: Rotations

Make X rotations, X being the total of the rotation icons in your beige-brown display; split them over your dials as you like (Rotations). Your starting card gives 2.

Action 3: Progress and blocking tokens

Do one, or pay 1 Coin for both:

Action 4: Barrels

X is the number of barrel icons of that kind in your display. Do one, or pay 1 Coin for both (finishing one before starting the other):

Action 5: Play a white card

Play a hand card as a white card: its special action, or its brewmaster (White section).

Action 6: Upgrade a worker

Pay 1 Coin and put your upgrade marker on step 3 of the round end board; the upgrade happens at round end. Only one upgrade per round.

Action 7: Brewery extension

Pay 3 Coin and build one extension tile you don’t have yet (Extension tiles). The first player to build each type gains 1 Victory point.

Action 8: Take 2 coins

Take 2 Coin.

Exchange

The exchange space (no number, ∞) takes any number of workers and trucks. Give up 1 beer tile from the cellar, 1 coin or 1 barrel from the cellar to gain 1 Victory point, 2 cards or 1 coin. Pay 1 coin to exchange twice.

Bonus actions

After a worker action, if the worker’s experience plus the space’s experience value is at least 6, you may place one of your small bonus workers on the bonus action board and take a bonus action. No bonus worker left: no bonus action. A bonus action always comes after the worker action, never on its own.

Basic area

Any number of bonus workers fit. Choose one: take 1 coin · play a card as beige-brown · take X barrels · move X barrels ↓ · 2 rotations · brew 1 beer · remove 1 blocking token.

Improved area

Only with at least 2 Lightbulb in your display (you may still choose the basic area). Choose one: pay 1 coin and complete an order · pay 3 coins and build an extension · take 3 cards · X rotations · 1 Victory point.

Turn order action

Move your untagged worker to one of the 8 turn order spaces and take its bonus at once; that space is now blocked. The further left you stand, the earlier you play next round.

SpaceBonus
1Take 1 card
2Take 2 cards
3Take 1 coin
4Take 3 cards
5Take the neutral grey truck — an extra truck action this round
6Play 1 card from your hand as beige-brown
71 Victory point
8Pay 1 coin and take the neutral grey worker (experience 2) — an extra worker action

“Take” a card means from the display (up to your brewing level) or the draw pile.

Truck action

Place your Truck on one of four truck spaces. A truck never gives a bonus action.

Administrative action

Move your untagged worker in the administrative area of your brewery board to an open action and do it:

  1. remove 1 blocking token and make 1 rotation (you may do only one part);
  2. brew exactly 1 beer;
  3. play 1 card from your hand as beige-brown;
  4. play 1 white card from your hand.

At the start only the first is open: the other three are under blocking tokens.
