Solo: Bruno
Algae, Inc. solo mode: setup and rules for Bruno, the rival department who claims cities as you clear the action board.
Your rival
You play your department against Bruno, who never produces anything: he claims cities and milestones with neutral disks. Score more VP than him.
Solo setup
Set up a two-player game for yourself, then:
-
Take 18 export disks and 10 milestone markers of unused colours: Bruno’s neutral pieces. One more neutral disk is his VP marker.
-
Pick a random capital city; put a neutral disk there and no city bonus token. Bruno scores its demand in VP. This counts as the game’s first export, so transport is measured from it.
-
Put neutral disks on the action board:
Strip Disks B 2 — one on each middle action C 3 — one on each action D 8 — two on each action E 3 — one on each action -
Fill the byproduct tank of the type you cannot make completely; the tank of the type you make starts empty.
Bruno during the week
| Phase | Bruno |
|---|---|
| Monday Morning | Scores 1 VP per milestone he has achieved. |
| Work Week | When your supervisor moves to a spot holding neutral disks, remove 1 of them from the game. |
| Weekend | When you flip an action strip, every neutral disk still on it goes to the map (below). |
The tanks are still balanced at the weekend in solo.
Bruno exports
Place the disks from the flipped strip one at a time:
- on the lowest-demand city adjacent to a neutral disk that has no neutral disk yet;
- tie: a city that still has a city bonus token;
- still tied: you choose.
Bruno scores the city’s demand; if there was a city bonus token there, remove it from the game and he scores 2 VP more. After all disks are placed, the placements together count as one export for Bruno’s milestones, which score as usual.
At the end of week 4 no strip is flipped, but Bruno still exports the disks left on strip E.
End of the month
Bruno scores 1 VP per achieved milestone, as on a Monday. You score normally. More VP than Bruno wins.
