Tips & Strategy
Plan your income, time regional visits and defend for Prestige.
Build an income engine early
You have only three
Action markers per round over four rounds, so make early placements pay again later. Barge
Workers begin producing in round two; an Income Building also pays in later Income phases. Claim a first-
Governor building bonus before another player takes it, then shift toward the Palace, shipping and defense opportunities that match your family ability. The full-round demonstrations in Before You Play’s teach and playthrough and Gaming Rules!’ tutorial and playthrough show how those early investments create later options.
Manage Coins and placement costs
Before placing a marker, check how many markers already occupy its Region or
Wall space; each one adds a
Coin to the cost, including your own. A Barge placement instead costs one
Coin plus one per
Worker of yours already on that Barge. Keep enough
Coins to avoid losing choices when the shared spaces become busy. 3 Minute Board Games’ overview is a quick reminder to price a move before committing; Il Meeple Con La Camicia’s Italian tutorial demonstrates the same turn economy.
Choose a focused Palace plan
Palace-track majorities reward first place much more than spreading advances evenly. Pick one or two tracks that fit the regions you expect to visit, then use region banners, military actions and
Jade Figurines to reinforce them. Passing can convert figurines into paid track advances, so compare that cost with the value of keeping
Coins for crowded actions or attacks.
Defend the paths that matter
Watch the attack card before investing: each path may advance and strengthen at a different rate.
Walls and
Towers absorb strength before
Soldiers, and each
Soldier removed in
battle earns its owner
Prestige. An early
Soldier can also help break a later tie. In round four every
Chieftain advances two extra steps, so prepare for the final attack instead of relying on the printed movement alone. Before You Play and Gaming Rules! both demonstrate why a small timely defense can preserve
Governors and income.
Make shipping actions count
Check the Port Good,
Demand tile, open
Ship spaces and rewards before spending an action marker. A completed delivery earns the reward from both the
Demand tile and the
Ship space. A Passive Building may widen your choice of Ports or add another reward, so plan the action around the exact effect you installed. Keep Objectives flexible
Each
Objective can become an immediate resource/Good benefit or a final-scoring condition. Keep a card when its end-game condition follows the
Governors, Palace tracks, shipping or defense you already intend to pursue; discard it when the immediate benefit unlocks a stronger turn. Check the three-card multiplayer limit at final scoring and the different solo limit by difficulty.
Player counts and solo
The publisher supports one to four players; the solo Li Mu rules and two-player bot change setup and opponent pressure. Do not apply multiplayer
Objective limits to solo difficulty without checking the solo scoring rule.
