Tips & Strategy
How to teach Prague Unseen, first-game advice on home Workers, Rumors, minigames, Bridges, Popularity and the Bench, and where the teaching videos add to the rulebook.
How to teach it
The official how-to-play and the English teaches cover the setup first, then the 3 Eras and the
five actions, then Place a Worker in detail with one minigame after another (Vodnik, Robot,
Horned, Golem in the official video), then Enter a Building, Build a Building, Build a Bridge, the
free actions, the
Bench, and finally Era and end scoring. Teach the Game follows the
same arc but introduces the boards first.
Host game
Use a practice placement before the first real turn, following the Worker-by-Worker examples in
Prague Unseen - Tutorial & Playthrough
by Gaming Rules!. Ask the player to name the destination, the Worker type and the placement reward
before moving anything. On the first Vodnik turn, resolve all rewards in the matching Mill Wheel
section, then move one of those tokens clockwise to the next empty space; an empty section
gives a
Mug card instead (rulebook, p. 7). This is a useful pause point before players plan their
next turn. Remind a player near 6
Rumors to consider the cap before choosing a home placement.
Your first game
- Don’t chase all four minigames. Pick two or three that suit your
Upgrade cards and Buildings;
every minigame pays off at the end only if you push it far. - Home Workers for
Rumors, others for Resources. A home placement gives 3
Rumors — enough to
change a Worker’s type or pay for a missing Resource — while an off-type Worker gives the
Resource you need for a Building. - Bridges are shared. A complete Bridge lets every player’s Workers cross to the next Neighborhood’s Buildings, and each Bridge tile scores by its space at the end. Golem Guilds are the only way to pay for them.
- Read Popularity. The least visited Neighborhood rises to the top for the next Era. If you lead somewhere, keeping others away from it makes your lead worth more.
- Get
Upgrade cards early. They work for the rest of the game, so the first ones pay back most. - Time the
Bench. The first player to
Bench starts the next Era and takes the top
Bench bonus, and
every Worker still on a Square pays 1
Rumor — but you give up your remaining actions.
Player counts
With two players the board’s 1–2-player side and only 2 Building Price tokens per level are used,
and the virtual player’s Gargoyles (spaces 3, 2, 2 and 1) make
Influence majorities harder. Solo, the
Councilor plays with those same rules (Solo).
Videos versus the rulebook
- In one teach the designer clarified that you need at least 1
Influence on a track to score second
place; a Gargoyle still on the starting space doesn’t score. - A Worker built over (laid beside the Square) can no longer enter a Building that Era, but it still counts as a visit for Popularity — this follows from the rulebook, and the videos stress it.
The rulebook wins wherever a video differs.
