Game End and Scoring
Immediate rewards, income and the complete end-of-game score checklist.
Immediate points
Books award their printed
points when published; an appendix adds its printed
points when paid for at publication. Claiming an
achievement awards the first open value on its tile immediately. Later claimants take the next value, and each player can claim a given tile only once. On a two-player tile, the first claim is 6
points and the second is 3. University tracks give their marked bonuses during play; the scoring tile assigned to each track sets its end-game multiplier.
Income during play
A completed
voyage with a published
book beneath it pays the destination income during each
income phase. Completing an unpaired
voyage does not pay this recurring income until it has a
book. Other action effects and printed board rewards score or pay resources when they resolve.
Final scoring order
After the fifth
income phase, score these categories in order:
- Exotic
samples: score 5
points for each
sample condition you meet; each tile scores once.
Fully researched samples: score each
sample by its number of corners showing
knowledge or a reward: 2
points for two such corners, 4 for three, and 6 for four.- Incomplete
flower beds: a bed with at least one
flower scores its garden-reward tile’s
point award as though complete; ignore that tile’s other reward. Completed beds have already paid their majority reward during play. - Sent
letters: score the printed set value for each set of different-colored
letters. Each
letter may be in only one set; columns no longer matter. - University lecture tracks: for each track, multiply your speech token’s position by the number of times you fulfilled that track’s scoring tile goal, up to five. The first player on a track’s final space uses the space beneath the 4× multiplier; no other player may enter that final spot.
- Leftovers: spend
coins at 3
coins per
container or
tool, then score 1
point for each unused
tool,
container, unsent
letter card, and
knowledge marker in your notebook.
The highest total wins. If tied, the player with more
coins wins.
