Game End and Scoring

Council majorities, tie-breaks, final scoring and the two-player card schedule.

Scoring tiles

When a worker is removed from a stack, place it on the next empty Scoring tile in Council order, then evaluate that tile. If the worker is a Contractor, the active player adds it to their supply and places one of their own Family Members from their supply on the tile; with none in their supply, they swap the Contractor with one of their Family Members on the City Grid and place that one instead.

For the area shown, count each player’s cubes. Among players with at least one cube, first place earns 3 VP, second 2 VP and third 1 VP. The areas are:

TileWhat counts
CityAll cubes in the named city.
ChurchAll cubes in the area beneath the named church, across rows.
ResourceCubes in the named resource row across all churches.
StatuesCubes in the Statue row across churches and Palazzo Vecchio.
PortsCloth cubes in Barcelona, Lisbon and London.
Trade CitiesCloth cubes in Troyes, Bruges and Hamburg.

Ties

Resolve a tie in this order: most workers on Scoring tiles plus cubes at Palazzo Vecchio; most workers on Scoring tiles; the player whose most recently placed Council worker is further left; the leftmost cube on the Palazzo Vecchio Statue spaces; then the active player or the tied player closest to them clockwise. A tie-break step matters only if the previous one leaves the players tied.

Final scoring

The game ends after the turn in which a player places their last worker or a worker enters the 15th Scoring tile. Continue until everyone has taken the same number of turns. If the last worker triggered the end, evaluate any remaining Scoring tiles from left to right. Then score the face-up Scoring cards and the cards selected by players. Cards award 5 VP for first, 3 for second and 1 for third using the same majority and tie-break rules. The Palazzo Vecchio card counts cubes there plus workers in the Council. Highest VP wins; break a final tie using the same tie-break order.

Two-player scoring cards

At setup, deal four Scoring cards to each player, place one of the two cards left over face up, and return the final card to the box unseen. After Scoring tile 5, each player chooses a card to place face down and discards one unseen. After tile 10, reveal the first two played cards, choose a second card to place face down, and discard the last card. Reveal both face-down cards at the end. Together with the face-up card, five cards score.

[Intrigue] The Intrigue expansion adds final scoring for the Cardinal and Emperor areas; see Intrigue scoring.
