Actions

The eight City Grid actions and the Action cards.

The eight actions

Every grid space borders two actions: one shown by an Action tile, and Contribute. Place a worker where at least one adjacent action can be completed. Take both in either order; a Contractor takes each one twice. You may take fewer deliveries than your maximum.

Gain a resource

Choose Brick, Wood or Marble. Move one cube from your supply to the matching warehouse on your player board. If all four warehouse spaces are full, that resource action is impossible.

Weave

Add one cloth cube from your supply to your player board for each Workshop you own. Reorganize cloth cubes among your workshops as needed. If every workshop is full, the action is impossible.

Build

Spend resources from your warehouses to build one item: a Ship for 2 Wood, a Workshop for 1 Wood and 1 Brick, or a Trade House for 2 Brick. Put the tile in its matching place. You may have only one Trade House in each of Troyes, Bruges and Hamburg.

Spend one Marble cube and place it on an empty Statue space at a church or the Palazzo Vecchio.

Ship

Send up to one cloth cube per Ship you own to Barcelona, Lisbon or London. Choose how many to send and where to place them. Move each cube from one of your workshops to an empty cloth space in the chosen city.

Transport

Send up to one cloth cube to each of your Trade Houses in Troyes, Bruges and Hamburg. If you have fewer cloth than Trade Houses, choose which routes to use.

Contribute

Move one resource cube from a warehouse to a matching empty space beneath a church: Brick to Brick, Wood to Wood, Marble to Marble. You choose the church.

Action cards

An Action card gives its pictured action, which can be played before or after an action during a worker activation. The five starting choices are Wood, Brick, Weave, Build and Marble. Cards are kept secret. If an action is impossible, draw from the deck subject to the active-player limit.

What makes an action impossible

An action is impossible only if none of its possible outcomes can be done. For example, Build is still possible if you can afford any one of a Ship, Workshop or Trade House. A full warehouse makes that particular resource action impossible; an empty Cloth supply makes Ship and Transport impossible. The reference card summarizes each action, while the detailed limits above determine whether a card is drawn.
