Game End and Scoring

Score links and flipped Industry tiles at each era end, maintain income, then resolve the final result.

Income and flipping

When an Industry tile flips, advance your Income marker by the number of spaces shown at the lower right of that tile. These are spaces, not income levels; income cannot rise above level 30. A flipped tile’s VP value is not scored immediately.

At the end of each round, take money from the Bank equal to your income level. If your level is negative, pay that amount to the Bank instead. Do not collect income at the end of the game’s final round.

If you cannot pay a negative-income shortfall, remove one or more of your Industry tiles from the board and gain half the tile’s cost, rounded down, for each. Stop as soon as you can pay. You may remove only Industry tiles, never Links; removed tiles leave the game and do not score. If you still cannot pay, lose 1 VP for every £1 still owed. Keep any cash left over after settling the shortfall.

Era scoring

Each era ends after all players have used their final cards. Score in this order:

  1. Links: for each of your Link tiles, score 1 VP for every VP symbol in the locations adjacent to it. After everyone scores, remove all Link tiles from the board.
  2. Flipped Industry tiles: score the printed VP value of each of your flipped Industry tiles still on the board. Unflipped tiles score nothing.

If you pass 100 points, begin another lap of the Progress Track to record the remainder.

Between the eras

After Canal scoring and before Rail play:

  1. Remove every level 1 Industry tile from the board and return it to the box. Leave level 2 and higher tiles in place, whether flipped or not.
  2. Place one beer barrel on each empty beer space beside a non-blank Merchant tile. Merchant tiles remain where they were.
  3. Shuffle all players’ Discard Piles together, including the face-down bottom card of each pile, to make the new Draw Deck.
  4. Each player draws a new Hand of eight cards.

Canal links are already removed as part of scoring. Industry tiles that survive the transition can score again at Rail Era end if they are flipped then.

The winner

After Rail Era scoring, the highest VP total wins. Break a tie by:

  1. Highest current income level.
  2. Most money remaining.
  3. If still tied, the tied players share the win.
