Marriage

Marry villagers, raise children and gain bread and tools.

Short tag: [Marriage].

Setup changes

Add the Marriage board, choosing its ceremony-bonus side. Set out bread, tools, two pink villagers and the four-sided die. Every player starts with five generation-1 villagers instead of four. Add five ring-symbol customers. Use the setup card matching all chosen expansions and player count, with seven plague cubes. Keep the extra farm-category chronicle spaces available at the appropriate player counts.

In round one only, place no cubes on Family. From round two onward, use the card’s normal Family count. The Well can still select Family in round one.

Smuggler

Use its action to choose one:

No worker is assigned to the Smuggler.

Marriage action

Put one farm villager on a free ceremony rank, paying two time and one influence of any colour. Normally you may have at most one own villager in the ceremony at once. Take that rank’s printed immediate bonus. Rank 1 is highest, 6 lowest.

Wedding

After each regular Mass, hold a wedding. No wedding follows the final Mass.

  1. Roll the four-sided die. If its matching rank is empty, put a pink villager there; if occupied, do not reroll. Marry the top two occupied ranks. At 4–5 players, also marry the next two. The higher-ranked spouse chooses bakery or village shop. If that chooser is pink, roll to decide between the buildings.
  2. Move old couples from bakery/shop to the family-houses area. Move new couples into their chosen building. Return every unpaired villager from the Marriage board to its farm. A villager returning unmarried from the ceremony during this step may pay one influence for one bread or one tool. This is not available when recalled through Family.
  3. Each own villager in a bakery couple earns either two bread, or one bread and two grain. Each own villager in a village-shop couple earns either two tools, or one tool and two influence. Each own villager in a couple at the family houses gains one lowest-numbered unborn villager onto its farm.

Couples move together until one dies or is recalled. If a villager dies while married to a pink villager, immediately return the pink spouse to the supply. Bakery, shop and family-house occupancy is unlimited. If a pink villager is needed and none remains in supply, take one from the family-houses area as directed by the wedding aid.

Bread and tools

Feed each villager bread this way only once per game. The villager must be visible and living on a board or farm, not inside the black bag. When that villager dies, return its bread to the supply.

Bread and tools are not ordinary goods, so the third council privilege cannot select them; a tool cannot double a council privilege. A death on the Marriage board uses the farm chronicle category, then the graveyard if full.

Combinations

[Inn] Add the three Marriage character cards and form three stacks of eleven. [Port] Add two Marriage treasure chests before shuffling. [Solo] Use a third pink villager and the two-roll wedding procedure (Solo).
