The Castle and Grounds
Every place a die can go in The White Castle: the Castle's Stewards' and Diplomats' rooms with their Die tiles and cards, the Well, Outside the Walls and your Personal Domain.
The Castle
The Castle has 5 rooms for dice: 3 on the Stewards’ floor and 2 on the Diplomats’ floor. Each room holds a Castle card and Die tiles in the three die colours.
- Place a die of a colour that has a Die tile in that room — no matching tile, no placement.
- You may carry out the card actions next to the Die tiles matching your die.
- On the Stewards’ floor a colour can appear twice in a room: then you may do both actions, in any order.
Castle cards have two kinds of action:
- Dark-background actions: one of the three main actions —
Courtier,
Warrior,
Gardener. On Steward cards they cost 1
Seal. - Light-background actions: rewards such as Resources, coins, Seals, Influence or Clan Points.
The top floor, the Daimyo’s room, takes no dice: only Courtiers reach it (Courtiers).
Outside the Walls
Two spaces at the bottom of the board that take a die of any colour. Each lets you do one of its two main actions — Gardener, Courtier or Warrior, as shown.
The Well
The Well of Okiku takes any number of dice of any colour, and its value is always 1, whatever is already there. A die above 1 earns coins as usual.
Placing a die here gives 1
Seal plus the rewards on the backs of the 2 Die tiles lying
in the Well.
The Well action triggered by a card or tile counts as a die of value 1: no coins.
Your Domain
Each die colour has its own space on your Domain board, at the start of one line of clan members: coral — the Courtier line, black — the Gardeners, white — the Warriors. Placing a die there (it covers the printed 6, so you usually pay):
- gain the rewards visible in that line — those uncovered as clan members left it; then
- you may do the action on the Action card at the end of the lines.
A Personal Domain action from a card or tile works as if you had placed a die on one
of your 3 spaces — even one that already holds a die. The same line can be used at most twice a
turn: once with your die and once through such an icon.
[Matcha] The Matcha Domain board adds a fourth, green line (Matcha).
