Cards & Components
Every face of The White Castle and its expansions: boards, Castle, Garden, Starting and Solitaire cards, Matcha's Outskirts cards and Ceremony and Water Lily tiles, Training Yard and Die tiles, Bōeki's Privileges and Gifts, pieces and icons.
Every distinct face, grouped by type, with a link to the rule that uses it. Cards and tiles are
pictured from a public Tabletop Simulator mod
of the base game with Matcha (its labels are Chinese, the card art is language-free); the setup
picture and icons come from Devir’s rulebooks, the Bōeki pieces from the Bōeki rulebook. Effects are
in our own words.
Boards
| Picture | Board |
---
Main board — Bridges and Gardens, the Castle, Training Yards, the Well, Outside the Walls and the tracks (numbered tour, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). A Castle die needs a matching tile and the full coin difference. Place before Lantern rewards, then resolve the steps in order; the Well counts as 1, and card actions are optional. If only one die remains on a Bridge, its current side decides the bonus; dice may share an Outside space in 3–4 players.
Domain board (4) — Seals, Resource tracks, die spaces, clan member lines, Action card space and Lantern (numbered tour, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). A die gives the visible resources and the row’s action card; the end card deploys a clan member only when its effect or icon allows it. You may place another die on an occupied row, but dice cannot stack; a row can activate once from placement and once more from a bonus action in the same turn.
[Matcha] Board extension — green Bridge, Tea Fields, Outskirts of Himeji, Pond, Path of Tea and Tea House (Matcha, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). A Geisha action may move one Geisha and enter with another in either order; a reward applies only where she stops. Tea House rooms allow two Geishas per player, and scoring counts each physical Warrior as one.
[Matcha] Domain board (4) — adds the green line, the Chasen track and the Ceremony tile space (Matcha, FAQ). The base Personal Domain icon activates only the three original rows, not the green Geisha row.
Cards
Steward cards (1st floor)
15 cards, three rows each; the row beside a Die tile is the action that colour takes (the Castle). Dark rows cost 1 Seal. ◆ = removed with 1–2 players. If a Courtier replaces a card during a die turn, finish that die action from the card present when you placed it; when gaining a card, choose one light action, then turn your old Domain card face down into the Lantern Area. Finish each card action before the next; its actions can be taken in either order (FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). If the deck is empty, take the room’s light action but do not take or replace a card; the other acquisition steps are skipped. The dealt cards need not show all three action types; only redraw when every dark row shows the same one.

Garden cards
A Gardener pays Food when placed, may skip the action, and scores the card’s points at game end (Gardeners, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). Gardens activate at the end of rounds 1 and 2 if any die is on their Bridge; do not repay Food, and a newly placed Gardener does not get another activation that phase. You may have only one of your Gardeners per card.

Starting cards
Starting Resource cards (orange): take every pictured item at setup, then use the Lantern strip below the line as your reward (Lantern Rewards, FAQ). A ghosted card means you also take that Decree card into your Lantern Area (FAQ) — check against the physical component for the Decree card itself.

Solitaire cards
Each picture shows the Bridge side (die colour and position, where the die goes) and the action side (top, then bottom) (the rival’s turn). Garden types on the action sides are read from small pictures — check against the physical component. In Matcha, treat the bot’s Pond Overlook Geisha as a Gardener for end-of-round points, apply losses only as far as possible, then award its normal round points; it scores no Tea House tile points (FAQ, FAQ, FAQ).

Outskirts cards
[Matcha] 8 Calligraphy cards (purple, script background) and 8 Flower Arrangement cards (grey).
Each has a blue curtain (pay 1 Seal for the action) and a yellow curtain (a reward), with a
banner icon between them that shows on the side of your Lantern Area where the card goes — check
against the physical component for how that banner counts. ◆ = removed with 2 players
(the Outskirts, Geishas, FAQ, FAQ). Resolve a card’s Lantern action before adding it to your Lantern row; it replaces the matching Domain card and sends the former card to the Lantern Area.

Tiles
Die tiles
Dice side up in the Castle rooms, back side up in the Well (the Castle, the Well, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). A Castle placement needs a matching colour and the full coin difference. If dice are too low to afford, the Well is always an option at value 1; a Well action granted by a card does not pay extra coins. Which back belongs to which dice side is not shown in the source — check against the physical component.

Training Yard tiles
Double-sided: the blue side gives an action, the yellow side a reward; each Yard space shows which
side goes up. A Warrior entering a Yard takes its tile’s effect (Warriors, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). Warriors stay in that Yard; at game end multiply its value by your Courtiers inside the Castle (Gate Courtiers do not count). A Castle die-action tile grants one chosen action of its colour.
The pairing of the two sides is not shown in the source.

Wooden pieces — not pictured: 15 clan members per colour (5 Courtiers, 5 Gardeners, 5 Warriors),

Heron tokens, Influence markers and Fan tokens; coins (1 and 5), Daimyo Seals, the Round marker and
the +40/+80 [Matcha] +120/+160 tiles. Coins are unlimited; Seals cap at five, but any time you can trade 2 Seals for a Resource of your choice or 1 Seal for a coin, including to avoid losing excess. At game end, add coins and Seals and score 1 Clan Point per 5 total; the player whose Influence marker is farther along (or on top) wins a tie (FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ). Castle rooms hold any number of Courtiers, including several of your own in one room; a Courtier action can place a Courtier for 2 coins and promote one (the same or another) for 2 or 5 Mother-of-Pearl, in either order, but cannot repeat either part or split a two-floor move. You may move between any rooms on adjacent floors; on the Daimyo floor each marked space takes only one Courtier (FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, FAQ).
