Tips & Strategy
Teach the fixed card order first, then use inserts to counter what you have seen.
How to teach it
Use the publisher’s recommended first matchup: Joan and Ching Shih against Bödvar and Wong Fei-Hung. The official tutorial by Before You Play also teaches setup in that order. Explain that each reveal chooses the active Fighter, and that Fight cards resolve automatically in their fixed order.
Your first game
Keep attention on the next few cards in each Fight Deck. The rules let you inspect your own order but hide your new insert from the other player, so place cards where their effect can answer an upcoming attack or use an opening. Track the opponent’s revealed order and the changing active Fighter; a card’s target can depend on which Fighter is active that Turn.
Start with only the general actions—
Attack,
Block,
Heal and
Power—and read each chosen Fighter’s special rules before play. In later games, draft Fighters to explore how their asymmetric decks interact. Strategy advice in video reviews can help suggest combinations, but the rulebook and Fighter-specific text control how effects resolve.
Videos versus the rulebook
The videos below are useful for seeing the simultaneous reveal and the Build step. For card timing, track movement and a Fighter’s special loss condition, follow the publisher’s rulebook and Fighters’ Guide.
