Citizen Cards and Industry

Citizen Cards and Industry for Sweet Lands.

Cards in hand

Citizen Cards have industry and Sweets Tags, a Gold Play Cost, and either an Immediate Ability or a Pass Ability. Brownie Tags reduce the Gold cost of later cards by one each; a card does not discount its own cost. Cards are also the Hand Cost for Action Areas, so plan your Income and card plays together. During Rounds 1–4 keep at least one card after your action.

Immediate cards

Pay the card’s Play Cost, reduced by your Brownie Tags, and resolve its Immediate Ability. Afterward, you may pay one Diamond to automate the card you just played, if it has an Industry Tag. Put it beneath the matching Agriculture, Forestry, Mining or Wildcard Industry Column. The Immediate Ability has already resolved; the automated card now contributes its Industry Tag and Automation Ability. Each column starts with capacity one; two matching Properties raise its limit to two cards and four raise it to three, as shown on the board.

When you gain an Industry Bonus, trigger automated abilities in the matching column from top to bottom. The played card also contributes to automated-card scoring.

Pass cards

Pay the Play Cost and keep a Pass Citizen Card face up beside your Player Board. It cannot be automated. Its Pass Ability triggers every time you pass, including later rounds. Resolve it in the order shown by the pass rules and character ability.

Sweets Tags and other effects

Shortcake, Tart, Tiramisu, Brownie, Macaron and Wagashi are different tag types. Card effects and scoring tiles may count a particular type, your most numerous type, or tags in your possession. Apply the exact condition printed by the effect; equal most-numerous types each qualify where the rule says “each.”

Use the icon guide to distinguish resource costs, card tags, industry icons, ability timing and map placements. The guide does not reproduce every distinct Citizen Card face: consult the physical card for its exact name, cost and wording.
