Earth Actions

Dominant Species: Marine actions on the map — Wanderlust, Speciation, Tectonics, Competition and Migration, with their special spaces and the rulebook’s examples.

Wanderlust

The Wanderlust row with its extra-turn space

Do these steps in order:

  1. Take the face-up top tile of one of the three Wanderlust stacks; turn the next tile of that stack face up.
  2. Place it on an empty hex adjacent to at least one tile of earth.
  3. You may put one element from beside Wanderlust on any vacant corner of the new tile.
  4. Score bonus VPs for the new tile plus every adjacent tile of the same terrain (Bonus points table).
  5. In food chain order (Reptiles first), each player may move any number of their species from adjacent tiles onto the new tile.
  6. Special space (right): you then take another whole turn.

Speciation

The Speciation row with the species allowed per terrain

Choose one element disk on earth of the type beside your space. Then add species from your Gene Pool to any of the one, two or three tiles touching that corner, up to:

TerrainNew species, at most
Open Ocean Ocean4
Sand Plain Sand, Seamount Seamount3
Coral Reef Reef, Kelp Forest Kelp, Seagrass Meadow Seagrass2
Land Land, Hydrothermal Vent Vent1

Special space (right): speciate around any element on earth, of any type.

Tectonics

The Tectonics row

If all 12 Vents are already on earth, the action is forfeit. Otherwise:

  1. Choose a non-Vent tile on the edge of the hex grid — a hex that does not have six neighbouring hexes.
  2. Set aside every species on it.
  3. Cover it with a Vent: smoker side up in the bottom half of the board, geyser side up in the top half.
  4. Score bonus VPs for the new Vent plus every adjacent Vent.
  5. Put back one set-aside species of each animal; the rest return to their owners’ Gene Pools (not the box).
  6. Finally add one species of yours — from your Gene Pool or from your eliminated species.

Special space (right): any tile may be chosen in step 1. On one of the three centre hexes that straddle the halves, you choose the Vent’s side.

Competition

The Competition row

Choose one tile of the terrain shown on your space’s terrain marker marker, where you have at least one species. Eliminate up to 1, 2 or 3 opposing species there (the number on your space), from one or several animals. Eliminated species go to the box.

Special space (right): choose up to 2 tiles of any terrain, one after the other, and eliminate up to 1 opposing species on each. The same tile may be chosen twice (up to 2 there).

Competition example

Migration

The Migration row: 2, 3 and 5 species, special = all

Choose up to X of your species anywhere on earth — X is 2, 3 or 5 by space — and move each onto an adjacent existing tile. Species leaving the same tile may split up. Special space: move any number of your species.
