The Four Activities

How to use activity power, develop the Lake board areas and score their Sun and Moon values.

The Lake board setup diagram

  1. Weaving stacks — four power-numbered Textile stacks.
  2. Pottery market — face-up Pots and a facedown wild stack.
  3. Terrace farming — space for planted Maize.
  4. Reed bundling — the Boat route and Island slots.

On a Day turn, your activity power equals the number of empty Tambo spaces in the row or column of the Step marker you laid. You may always use less power. You must be able to perform the activity shown by the building slot you selected.

Pottery

Take Pots from the face-up market and/or the facedown stack, with total printed power no greater than your activity power. You may split power between up to two Pots. A facedown Pot counts as wild for sets. Do not reveal it when taking it. If a Pot you take shows Viracocha, gain and place that token immediately. Slide remaining Pots down and refill empty spaces from the stack; if the stack is low, shuffle it as directed by the rules.

Add taken Pots to your board from left to right; placed Pots cannot be replaced. At each Inti scoring, count all Suns above your filled Pot spaces. At Night, score each colour set: 1 Pot = 1 Moon, 2 = 4, 3 = 9, 4 or more = 16. Wild Pots may join any colour, but each wild Pot counts in only one set.

Weaving

Take Textiles whose combined power does not exceed your activity power. You can split power between Textiles, but take no more than one from each stack. A Viracocha symbol grants a token immediately. Place each Textile in your weaving area, rotating or flipping it as needed; it must cover exactly two empty spaces.

At each Inti scoring, count complete Suns visible in the weaving area. At Night, score the value under the rightmost consecutive completed column, counting from the left. A completed column to the right of an incomplete column does not score yet.

Terrace farming

Plant Maize equal to your power, placing it into the next open terrace spaces from left to right, top to bottom. Take Maize from any box on your board, but take the leftmost piece remaining in that box. Emptying a box with a Viracocha icon gives you that token immediately.

At each Inti scoring, count the Suns revealed on your board by removing Maize. At Night, your Moon value is the total Moons revealed in all emptied boxes. During the Night harvest, the player who planted the most Maize this round wins the Viracocha by the retiring Ayar; ties go to the first tied player who planted. Then clear the whole terrace.

Reed bundling

Move your Boat along the marked lake route. The total power of spaces it enters cannot exceed your activity power. You may retrace steps, but continue from the Boat’s current space. Entering a space with an Island costs no power; a Boat in that space does not change its cost.

When you enter an Island slot where you have none, place the leftmost Island from your board. Yellow slots allow one Island and one Boat; other Island spaces may be shared. Slots 2, 4 and 6 on your player board show Viracocha: when placing an Island from one of these, take a token from an adjacent Lake section if available.

At each Inti scoring, count the Suns revealed by removing Islands. At Night, score the value of your highest Island slot.

Viracocha bonuses

Place each Viracocha immediately on an open bonus space on your board. Once placed, it cannot move; a space closes when it has the required number of tokens. Bonuses are available as soon as their space is complete.

RequirementBonus
1 ViracochaTake one Llama immediately.
2 on the Moon spacePermanently gain 2 Moons for every Temple you still have on the Main board, before the Temple row scores.
2 on an activity spacePermanently gain +1 power for that activity, up to power 5. If gained during the activity, apply it immediately.
3 on the Sun spacePermanently gain +1 Sun whenever an activity adds Inti devotion, including Raymi and personal bonus scoring.
3 on the Step spaceImmediately move one retired Step marker to another empty Moon slot, reopening its previous slot.
4 on the Inti spaceImmediately add 6 to your dial for each Sun personal bonus you have already marked. The Osprey errata confirms this even if an activity would normally yield zero Inti devotion.

See Game End and Scoring for how final Llama points are allocated.
