Learn Ayar: Children of the Sun

Learn the game in 5 short steps. Everything links to the full rules.

Meet the Ayar

Your clan follows four Ayar pairs north from Lake Titicaca toward Cusco. Help them travel, build Tambos and develop four activities. After four rounds, your final score is the lower of your Sun and Moon scores. Start with the five-minute overview.

See the two boards

The Main board tracks the Ayar journeys, the four Temple rows, Raymi festivals and both scores. The Lake board holds the four activity areas. Each player board is a personal grid: emptying rows and columns powers your actions and opens bonuses.

Continue to setup, then read the four activities.

Set up for your player count

Choose the player count on the Setup page. Set your Inti dial to zero. Use the solo board on the reverse of a player board only for the Ayllu solo mode; it replaces that opponent’s personal board, while the Main and Lake boards remain in use.

Take a day turn

On your turn, lay down a Step marker, move its matching Ayar, remove a Tambo from the same row or column, and build it behind that Ayar on a slot for an activity you can do. The empty spaces in that row or column set your activity power. Then check Temples, personal bonuses and Raymi tiles. See Day and Night.

Score both gods

At night, the least-travelled Ayar retires. Score its Temple row and one Moon activity, then turn your Inti dial into Sun points. Llamas can raise either track at game end, but victory still uses the lower total. See Game End and Scoring.
