End and Final Scoring
When Ada’s Dream ends and the eleven final scoring steps, with completed-line examples and tie-breaks.
End of the game
The end is triggered when a player places their 9th die in the Mill. Play continues until everyone has had the same number of turns — the player to the right of the first player takes the last turn. Then everyone scores. A game is almost always 18 turns each; drafting extra dice can stretch it only if no one places a 9th die.
Final scoring
Score each line of the scorepad in order:
- Objectives — the
on every Objective space holding your disc. - Travel — the value of each University where you have any disc (once per University), plus 2
for every disc stacked on top of each of your discs there. - Lectures — each Institution level row scores for the player with the most discs in it (8 / 6 / 4 / 2 / 2 for levels 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 / 2); tied players each score half.
- Meetings — hand out the Science Scoring tokens (rules); each token scores its value for each Partner card of that Science in your supply.
- Partner cards — the Prestige printed on all eight cards in your supply, including any negative values.
- Programs — each Program whose line holds 3 dice meeting its condition scores its value; otherwise nothing.
- Completed lines — see below; each line is capped by your Steam.
- Gears — lose 2
for each Gear fewer than 12 that you built (a covered disc does not help). - Innovation — 2
if your marker ends on 5, 4
on 6. - Assignment Scoring tokens — each token’s value × the Assignments in that colour’s column.
- Leftover resources — 1 per Book, plus 1 for every 10 in any mix of £, Coal and Brass.
The most Prestige wins and is chosen by Ada to finish the Analytical Engine. Tie-breaks: most Gears built, then the highest total of the dice in your Mill, then the tied player closest clockwise to the first player.
Completed lines

A row or column is complete when it holds 3 dice and 2 Gears. Work it out like Babbage’s machine — strictly left to right or top to bottom, never multiplication first — then cap the result at your Steam. A line can score below zero. In the rulebook example Anthony’s completed lines total 74; his other two columns are incomplete.
| Line | Worked out | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Top row: 5 + 3 × 4 | 5 + 3 = 8, 8 × 4 = 32 | 30 (Steam 30) |
| Middle row: 5 + 4 − 1 | 9 − 1 | 8 |
| Bottom row: 5 − 2 + 3 | 3 + 3 | 6 |
| Left column: 5 × 5 + 5 | 25 + 5 | 30 |
| A forced example: 1 − 6 × 6 | −5 × 6 | −30 |
