Routes and Revenue
Running trains in 18 India: what a legal route is, Towns and gauge changes, express trains, variable-value cities, connection bonuses and commodity concessions.
What a route is
- It runs from a City to a City, includes at least two Cities and at least one station of the running Company (an express train need not score that City).
- A train’s number is how many stops it makes: Cities and gauge change markers count, Towns do not (normal trains collect every Town between their stops for free).
- Express trains (4E, 4E×2, 4E×3) run any distance, skip Towns and gauge changes, and score their four best Cities.
- A route may begin or end in a City blocked by other stations but never pass through it.
- Two trains of one Company may share Cities but never a piece of track.
- A train enters a hex only once — except the OO tiles (both stations count), the triple-Town tiles and brown or gray plain track, each time on separate track. Mumbai and Nepal have two circles but count once.
Revenue
Each City and Town shows its revenue; red off-board cities show theirs. A train earns the sum of its stops plus its route and concession bonuses. ×2 and ×3 trains double or triple the stops, never the bonuses.
Variable value cities
Cities marked ”? + XX” are worth the best other City on the route (it need not be scored, only included) plus XX. With only variable cities on the route, each counts ₹20 + XX.
Route bonuses
| Connection | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Delhi – Kochi | ₹100 |
| Karachi – Chennai | ₹80 |
| Lahore – Kolkata | ₹80 |
| Nepal – Mumbai | ₹70 |
Both cities must be scored by the train (express trains too). One route can earn several bonuses.
Commodity concessions
Commodity tokens on the map are sources; destinations print the commodity’s name and bonus. The first Company to run a train whose route passes through a source hex and one of its destinations takes the concession marker for good and adds the bonus that run. From then on only that Company earns that bonus.
