Gameplay

Turn actions, legal placements, Troop powers, special bases and region medals in Toy Battle.

Turn actions

Players alternate turns. Choose exactly one action: draw two Troops from your reserve to your rack, or place one Troop from your rack onto the terrain. A rack can hold at most eight. If there is one empty space or one Troop left in reserve, draw one; if full, you cannot draw.

Placing a Troop

You may place on an empty base, on top of one of your own Troops, or on top of an opponent’s Troop if your Troop has strictly greater strength. You may also place on the opponent’s HQ when connected to your own HQ through your visible Troops. Your own HQ is not a placement space.

Except for Hook, a placement must connect to your HQ through bases occupied by your visible Troops. An empty base or a base topped by an enemy Troop breaks the path. Hook ignores the connection rule for bases; taking the opponent’s HQ still requires the normal connection.

Troop effects

Resolve a placed Troop’s ability before the special-base effect. Only visible Troops can be affected. Jumbo removes the visible opponent Troop from an adjacent base; covering the top of a stack exposes the next piece. Cap’N gives an extra placement, resolving that Troop’s effect before special-base effects. XB-42 makes the opponent discard a random rack Troop; the opponent may rearrange the rack before the random selection. Star and Skully draw from your reserve, subject to the rack limit. Kwak can cover any opposing strength and has no additional ability.

Special bases

Terrain effects happen after the placed Troop’s ability. A special base can trigger again when another Troop is placed on it, including when you cover your own Troop there. Each terrain’s special bases and restrictions are listed in Cards & Components and on its included reference.

Closed regions and medals

When you occupy every base around a region, take the medal markers inside it immediately. The claimed medals stay with you for the rest of the game, even if the region later opens. You may complete more than one region with one move; a medal already claimed is not gained again.

The La Croisette expansion adds special bases with placement restrictions. The Medals Track promo changes how you track the terrain’s medal objective.
