Shared setup

Use the Main Board and Time & Pinakes Board sides matching the player count (1–2 or 3–4). Set out the Generation track, Head Librarian tiles, Events, supplies, Time dice, School Scribes and other shared components following the publisher setup diagram.
Shuffle Generation tiles and place one face up on each of the seven leftmost Generation spaces. Shuffle Event tiles and place one face up on each of the two Event spaces. Prepare Scribe and Manuscript stacks by specialty following the setup diagrams.
Deal one random Pinax tile face down to each player. Place seven Pinax tiles face up on the Time & Pinakes Board.
Create the shared supply of Ink, Papyrus, Silver, Research, King’s Grace, Library tokens and Translation Stones. Set out Time dice as shown for the player count.

Solo: Zotikós

Set up the human player using the 2-player setup. Zotikós skips Inauguration and receives its own board, starting Request, Manuscript, Pinax tiles, Time die, Scribe and decks. Follow the solo booklet layout and select one of its four difficulty levels.

Each player

Take a Workshop, Player Aid, two King’s Request cards and three Knowledge dice. Set one die to 1 on your Starting Scribe; set the other two to 1 in the School.
