Game End and Scoring
End triggers, final scoring, and tie breaks from The Great Library's current English rules.
End triggers
The game end is triggered during Execution when the second Event is triggered or when two or fewer empty Library spaces remain. An empty space is one without a Manuscript, Great Work or Craft; a space with a Library Location tile counts as empty.
Once triggered, continue until the end of the current round. If the second Event triggered the end, every player then takes one more turn before scoring. If the Library threshold triggered it, score immediately after the round. If the second Event is triggered during End of Generation, each player takes one turn in the next Execution phase, then scores. The end is triggered only once; if the Event trigger caused it, a later Library threshold does not shorten the game.
Score each player
- Pinax: For each Pinax tile, score 3, 6, 10 or 15 Renown for one, two, three or four of your Seals on translated Manuscripts, Great Works or Crafts in the matching pattern. Rotate the Pinax tile in 90-degree steps if useful. Remove each Seal used to score so a Library tile cannot count for another Pinax.
- School: Add the Knowledge values on your Scribes in the School and score 1 Renown per two. A Young Scribe’s Knowledge value is not doubled.
- Invited Scholars: Score the Renown printed on the back of each invited Scholar card in your Workshop.
- Supplies: Add your King’s Grace and Research tokens to Crate resources in your Ships and supply; score 1 Renown per three. Score 2 Renown for each Translation Stone in your supply or Royal Ships.
- Add all Renown already earned during play.
Tie breaks
The tie-break order is: most Seals removed from a player’s Workshop; then most invited Scholar cards; then most fulfilled King’s Requests. If still tied, players share the victory.
Easy-to-miss rules
- Library spaces covered by a Library Location tile still count as empty for the end-game trigger.
- King’s Grace counts with Research and Crates for final scoring and may be used as any other supply or spent for +1 Time during play.
- Great Works require a matching Translation Stone when acquired through the Academy.
- Crafts can be wild for King’s Requests, with limits for requests naming a specific specialty.
- Unspecified details of a card face are not inferred here; check the physical card and its printed text.
