Resources, Land and the Market
Grow your income, build a connected estate and use the Market to fill gaps.
Resource income
Your income markers begin at 3 gold, 2 limestone, 2 wood and 0 marble. Place workers in the Raw Materials Factory to take up to your current income of one material. Gold takes no workers: advance a marker along its gold spaces. For wood, limestone and marble, the first player to take that material in the season may take one extra unit. Workers assigned to the Factory return at season end. Glass is obtained through the Market. The supply of resources is unlimited.
Expand the lands
Pay 3 gold to take and place a land tile. Your first tile goes over the shared lower area; put one of your markers on it. Every later tile must connect to a tile marked as part of your estate. You may place your marker on another player’s land tile; that player receives 1 gold for each of their markers already on the tile, up to 3 gold total. Each tile can hold one marker per player.
A forest raises wood income, a limestone quarry raises limestone, and a tax land raises gold. A marble quarry can be added after you have at least two land tiles. One marble field has two separate spaces, so it can raise marble income twice. White-dotted outer lands provide a Market-condition token; take the token and remove another land tile from the game. Your improvement also applies to later players adjacent to that land.
Your land markers must form a continuous line. The designer confirmed this in a rules-forum answer.
Market actions
The first Market player takes three different actions; every later Market player takes two different actions. Market actions do not use workers or instructors. The three marked prices begin at 3 gold. The first time a marked action is used in a season, pay 2 instead and turn its marker to 2; subsequent users pay 3. Reset all three markers at season end. Market conditions can modify prices.
