Events and Bonus Conditions

Resolve seasonal changes and compete for one-time rewards and shared condition points.

Event cards

At setup, shuffle the eight Events and place three face down on each of two stacks; return two unseen to the box. For a first game, use the six cards with the first-game symbol. At the start of Spring and Fall, reveal the top card of the matching stack and apply its current-season effect. Announce its next-season effect; it begins in Summer or Winter. Discard the card after that second season.

Events change the season’s rules: examples include weather that alters outdoor or indoor worker costs, land-price changes, a market restriction, a gold boycott, illness that limits instructors, worker support, and gifts or training. Read the card’s timing and full effect before placing instructors. The printed Event faces are not reproduced comprehensively here; consult the source rulebook and the physical card.

Light-blue conditions and yellow rewards

Reveal five random light-blue conditions in the lower row. Put five random dark-blue conditions face down above them. Supply three yellow reward tiles per player. For the first game, use the five marked light-blue conditions.

Each light-blue condition can be claimed once by each player. When you meet one, take a yellow reward tile and immediately choose its reward. Then reveal the dark-blue condition above that column. If no yellow tile remains, claim and flip the light-blue tile; it is worth 3 points at the end, and other players can no longer claim that tile.

Dark-blue race

The first player to meet a revealed dark-blue condition scores 7 points; the second scores 5; the third scores 3. A dark-blue tile remains available after each claim. If a player already meets a newly revealed condition, they can claim it at that time. If multiple players qualify together, the player earlier in the Building Order area gets the higher award; when two players qualify together for the first award, share the 7 points rounded up, and do not award the second place for that same simultaneous claim.

If a building bonus grants a land or decoration, it is free and still scores its printed Prestige, as confirmed by the designer. See Build Your Castle.
