Teach the Game
Teach the Game for PDX.
How you win
Build an airline at Portland airport. Destinations form routes that your planes visit over several turns, feeding you tokens and extra actions. Score your assigned destinations, advertising and matching private offices.
Reserve a destination, pay its service cost to assign it, then fly a matching-size plane down the route. Use the income to build the next part of your engine.
The boards

- Runway — lease the front plane.
- Destination Market — eight stacks set the pace.
- Office Display — offices available to open.
- Advertising — spend Activity Tokens.
- Executive Offices — your worker’s actions.
Your Concourse has three small gates, three reserve slots, offices, token storage and a hangar.
A turn
Land planes → optionally reclaim suitcases → move your worker → optionally schedule flights → clean up.
Say aloud: “My planes move first. Then I can reclaim yesterday’s suitcases. My worker must visit a different office. New flights start moving on my next turn.” See Gameplay.
How the game ends
When three destination stacks empty, finish the round so everyone has equal turns. Then score.
Ways to score
| Source | When and how |
|---|---|
| Assigned destinations | Add their printed points at game end. Reserved tiles score nothing. |
| Advertising | Add each launched card’s printed points once. |
| Private offices | Each printed service symbol scores 1 per assigned destination showing that service; duplicated office symbols each score. |
| [Shares] Company Shares | Secret cards give additional final conditions. |
What each resource is for
| Resource | Get → use |
|---|---|
| Service Tokens | Visit offices and land planes → pay to assign destinations. Wild substitutes for a service. |
| Activity Tokens | Land on activity destinations → pay for ads. Wild Service Tokens cannot substitute. |
| Planes | Lease from the runway → schedule on equal-size gates. |
| Suitcases | Place through your worker’s action → reclaim on a later turn for another action. |
| Build actions | Upgrade a gate one size, open an office or add an extra gate. |
Teaching tips
- Host game: demonstrate one landing before explaining every office.
- Show that a long-haul tile requires a large gate, while a small plane still requires a small gate.
- Rehearse a suitcase reclaim: take the office action, return the suitcase, and do not replace it with another suitcase.
- Use the Beginner variant for new players. [Specialists] Add Specialists after the core loop is familiar.
